How To Find The Mesh Files - Problems about Downloads Solution

1- Where they are being saved as you download them?
2- What kind of file is that?
3- Did you unzip the necessary files?
4- Are they in your My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads directory? make sure that your files are not in subdirectories
5- Do you have the latest CEP (v2) ?
6- Have you turned on show custom content in the game options?
7- Is this a completely new, user created object (non maxis) which needs the "MESH FILES"?
For steps 1 to 6 please read the "Announcement: Where do I put my downloads?" by clicking here..
What is a Mesh File?
This is a completely new, user created object/hair/clothing (non maxis)
For example If someone creates a new item and 6 different colors for this item,
only one of them is the actual object. We say them the "mesh files". Mesh files are necessary
for user created objects. If there is no mesh file of a particular object none of the recolors will work.
For example you may have 60 rugs in your downloads folder but none of them will work if you don't find the mesh file of this item.
Where do I find the "MESH FILES"
Step 1- Reading the description of the Creator. Every creator writes a description that explains where that mesh files are..
Step 2- If this mesh is created by the same person you are downloading from click his/her name to see his/her previous creations.
Step 3- If it is part of a set, check the whole set to see if one of them says it has the mesh.
Step 4- If it gives another creator's name, look at that person's profile.
Step 5- If it gives another site, try to find that site by using a search engine.
I hope it helps..

Couple of things I want to add. When you are in Downloads area, there are search controls on the left-hand side of the screen. They will speed up your search, try it :P. And another thing, quite often new objects (meshes) are for pay members only, while recolors could be available for free. You need to have a pay membership to download meshes, please remember that.

I too have been bombarded with "Where is Windkeeper's meshes" and all I can do is give them a link to Windkeeper's pages. Since we are always adding new things to our pages a link to a certain mesh would change constantly.

under downloads if you click objects it let's you choose from:
"recolor & 3D", "3D meshes only" or "Paintings & Pictures"
To me that means MAxis and custom object recolors should be under the first, new meshes the second.
Of course some creators have mistakenly/accidentally clicked the new mesh line when uploading new mesh recolors; but it's still pretty easy to navigate.

I have no idea what use that drop down menu has at the moment. I took the time to use that for my last sets, and then it doesn't seem to have a purpose. If that drop down would create a link to the mesh uplaod that would be perfect!
Wonder if that's what TSR is planning for future?

when in bodyshop its often difficult to tell which clothes i'm about to clone are meshes, and who has come up with them - if you mesh makers could put in the tooltip that its a mesh and your name, it would make it a lot simpler than having to check back with the site every five minutes.
Also when i recolour, will the mesh automatically be packaged with the recolour as part of the .package file?
thanx in advance

when you recolor an outfit in BodyShop, you are actually never recoloring the MESH...the mesh does not show in BodyShop....that's why, when you download a new mesh, you MUST download at least one recolor of it, or you won't see it in BodyShop OR in the game....all you see in there are the recolors of the mesh, not the mesh itself
and no, meshes are not included when you package a recolor. meshes are separate files. When you upload a recolor of a mesh here, you have to tell people which mesh is needed for your recolor to be seen. I agree with the others that TSR REALLY needs to make us clickable links for meshes...I use up over half of my description area telling people where to get the mesh and I STILL get PMs asking where the mesh is LOL

Also i noticed with the pulldown when submitting designs for cutom meshes.. its already pretty big, as more and more meshes are made its going to get HUGE! I'm not sure of any other way around this, but it seems to me it may become inpractical very quickly.
thanx again

I downloaded some skins/clothes for my Sims2 game. I'm playing with the university expansion pack. When I unzip the files, do I unzip them to a downloads folder in uni or regular sims2? I tried unzipping into sims2, I even made sure that the right options are selected in the game...but my downloads do not appear in the game.
Any help would be appreciated!

Excellent point to make buntah.
Cemre I think this was a great idea. I also wanted to say thanks for the mesh downloads that have been in the free section here of your baby things. My movie viewers love them! I'm directing them here. The nautical was my favorite.

Can I just add that it took me ages to realise that most of the downloads are useless unless you subscribe - you need to be very careful what you download as if the mesh is a pay item the recolours are useless.
I started off downloading loads of stuff and then when I went to get the mesh it had a little padlock on it!!
