I have downloaded some walls and floors that don't show up although when I use the package installer it says that they were installed successfully. When I go into the game there is a spot for them but the walls show up gray and the floors white. Most of what I have downloaded shows up fine--the problem seems to be with certain artists. I have a PowerBook G4 with 1.56 GB DDR2 SDRAM, I have installed the latest version of CEP (4) and I have the Nightlife EP. At first I thought that the problem was that the walls and floors that didn't work required an expansion pack that I didn't have (and the artist neglected to mention that). But now that I have Nightlife, it doesn't seem to be the problem. All of the walls and floors that don't work were posted before the Open for Business EP came out for the PC. So....I was just wondering if I am missing something really basic here.
Thanks for any help!

I just recently got the university and nightlife expansions for my sims2 Mac and decided to do a fresh install. I saved a few downloads I had been using to reinstall (.sims2pack files). For some reason, they now give me the message that I require expansion pack data that is not installed. They previously installed for me with sims2 only though. Is there a workaround for Mac users and this type of problem? I'm not even sure if its a me thing or a bug  ... any advice would be great! Thanks :)

Also, depending on the download type, it will be either a .package file or a .Sims2Pack file. Usually pieces for your sims, like clothes and makeup, are .package files. Objects are usually .package files. Walls and floors and lots are .Sims2Pack files.
You can install .Sims2Pack files by double-clicking them once you've downloaded them and the Sims2Pack Package Installer that comes with the game will automatically install them. A little window should popup on install for you to click OK and tell you the package was installed sucessfully.
If you have NL, upon launching the game you need to make sure you enable custom content at the startup screen, then restart the game for it to take effect.
.package files just need to be dragged into your Downloads folder. No special install process for them.

No problem! I think the only reason they don't work now is because, with the University and NightLife expansions installed, it's able to see what expansion is checked now. I think that even though those particular packs don't need Business, it's been checked by the maker (already having it installed). I betcha dimes to donuts, once I have that expansion installed, they'll install fine for me. 3 month wait and some cash should do the trick, eh? :)

Hi,
Just got the sims 2 original. First time playing with a mac (macbook)
Just downloaded the patch...apparently is required. Installed it. How do i know I've installed it correctly cos I just followed the instructions and intalled it not knowing where it has been installed to. 1 thing for sure, it's not in the sims download file. The installer is currently on my desktop. Do I need to drag it into the sims download folder for it to be "installed"
Another thing...I just downloaded 2 files from 4esf - whole set and a collection package.
When I opened the collection package folder, it says,
"unzip the .package file into My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Collections
unzip the .jpg file into My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Collections\Icons"
I can't find the "Icons" folder inside collections. Am i supposed to create an icons folder.
I feel silly...
thanks,
bern_.

If the installer is currently on your desktop, double-click that and it should then run, installing the patch. And you should be able to tell when it is finished installing. After it has, you can either delete it by dragging it to the trash or keep it in case you need it in the future, by moving it to where you would like to keep your sim related files. Just don't keep in in the game folders, make a separate folder to keep you sim stuff like downloads etc.
There should already be in Icons folder inside Collections, but if not, I don't see any harm in making your own. Just be sure to name it with a capital I (Icon not icon) so that it matches the way the game creates one.
Happy simming! :D

I'm on an iBook G4 running OSX 10.4.7, if that matters. I also am a little low on memory - not so low that it should be causing problems though.
ALSO, I have a question. I ordered OFB from Amazon, and should have it by the weekend. Since I'm having this problem with the Package Installer, I thought I'd just do a full reinstall of the base game and all my expansion packs. My question is, if I just pull out my downloads folder and reinstall it after the game is reinstalled, am I good? Are all those Sims2Pack files I installed (before the problem started) going to continue working, or are they also being put in some other location (other than the downloads folder) that I need to know about? I know that when you use package installer on Sims2Pack files, they get converted into .package files that show up in the downloads folder, but is there something else that is ALSO happening, some other folder I need to back up? How about families? I never bother to backup families, but I have one right now that I'm quite attached to. How can I keep them? (For the record, I've been playing forever, and I've reinstalled several times, but I usually just ditch all my families and reinstall my downloads from my backup disk, so I don't know all this stuff.)
Thank you!

As to which files to keep, downloads can also be in your Saved Sims folder, so keep that if there's anything in it. You could package your family to keep it, but I don't think that's a good idea, as they will bring memories into your clean reinstall that won't apply to the new neighborhood, and that can mess up the game. So what you can do is keep your neighborhoods folder as well. After starting and playing the clean install for a few minutes, quit and move that folder back in.
In fact, the easiest thing to do is just keep everything that's in your Sims 2 folder (User/Documents/EA Games/Sims 2). That way after you reinstall & play the game for a few minutes, quit, and replace everything in the new folder with the stuff from your old folder, everything should be back as it was, families included.
