Sims 2 and Windows Vista

It's been a while since I've posted here or even offered a house as the operating system on my computer became corrupted and therefore rendered the computer useless. Ultimately I bought a new computer and I am literally starting all over again with everything. My new computer has Windows Vista as it's operating system. I've discovered a few problems that I hope someone can answer for me with regards to Sims 2 and Windows Vista.
I've created a house that I would like to offer here on TSR. I've taken several pictures but for the life of me I can't seem to find the pictures anywhere. I've found the "storytelling" folder that holds the standard pictures but I can't locate the storytelling folder that holds the pictures that I've taken within my game.
I've also come upon a problem when trying to change the scripts of downloaded objects where script changes are needed (modular stairs, fireplaces, etc.). When I have tried to add a script, here is the error message that I receive:
Cannot create the C:\ProgramFiles\EAGames\TheSims\TSData\Res\Catalog\Scripts\Modularstairs.txt file
Make sure that the path and filename are correct
Does any of this make any sense to anyone? I'd like to get both of these problems resolved before proceeding further so I can offer my homes on here again.
Thanks for your help!

Every once in a while, they go into the wrong Storytelling folder for some reason. My advice: look in the main Storytelling folder (My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Storytelling) first and right-click on the background, choose "Sort by...modified on". If not there, go into the Neighborhood folder in which the lot is located (N001, N002, etc) and look in the storytelling folder there.
If you still cannot find your screenshots and are desperate, go back to the main Sims 2 folder and do a search for "snapshot" and specify the exact date you took the pics on. This should find all snapshots taken on that date, your lot screenies included.
I have never edited scripts for custom content, so I'm sorry I can't help you there. I'm sure someone here can! As a last resort, you can try contacting the creator of the items.

I went into the individual neighborhood folders and sure enough, the pictures were in the storytelling folder in the last neighborhood.
One problem down, one to go...
Thanks again!

I don't know about everyone else, but my storytelling folders are often out of whack. The way it's supposed to work: pics taken on a lot without any sims are supposed to go into My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Storytelling. Pics taken on a lot with sims are supposed to go into the My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Neighborhoods/N00x/Storytelling folders.

Thanks for your help Helen.

For the scripts for modular stairs, I never created a new file but rather added to the existing one. I opened it in notepad and cut and pasted the relevant data and then saved it. I would recommend making a backup of the original before doing this just in case
. It has worked fine with all the modular stairs I have downloaded
.
Hope this helps

Note--Make sure you're adding the additional text to the modularstairs.txt file found in the Programs...Sims 2 folder (base game), not in one of the Expansion Pack folders.

I had the same problems with the scripting problems & i have Vista. WHat is happening is that Vista will not allow you to edit the file where it is in its current location (security issues) however, if you make a copy of the script file you want to edit, copy it onto your desktop or similar, then edit/add whatever it is you need then move the file back, copying over the old unedited version. you will be asked to confirm the move, but it should work fine (fingers crossed)

I did print out your instructions so I can go back over them to see if I can get this to work.
Thank you Mistress

If it helps, I know what Mistress is saying... However, from what I understand, you are trying to add an entire text file to a folder and it's not letting you. Am I right about this? I think her suggestion is regarding a pre-existing file you are trying to add a script to.
If it is a Vista issue, I'd contact Microsoft. They'd be the best ones to help you. Here is a link for technical support. Perhaps they know how to turn off or lower security settings so that you can do what you need to do.

Go into your system as the Admin. and shut down Windows Defender and the updates for it. You are going to get a warning that your system won't be protected, but as long as you have another security feature such as the ones I spoke of, you will be. This will work for both the Basic, and Home Premium editions of Vista.
