ok...this may be a super silly question, but i just spent like 30 mins creating two new sims for the single purpose of become friend/boyfriend to my current sim...when i went to move them into the neighborhood my current sim wasn't there :( its like i'm playing a whole new neighborhood.
how do i add sims to my current neighborhood? and is there a way to save these sims i just spent time creating and add them to my current game? thanks, all

To play more than one family in the same neighbourhood you have to use the Edit Town button, not the ones on the Options Main Menu. You can switch between families but the ones you're not playing will lose their current little wishes and will carry on their lives while you're not playing them.

I can't believe this is happening.

We can only have one family???

If we have two or more they carry on their lives without our say so or input. It's honestly a major oversight!

The wonderful thing about Sims to me is the fact that all the little people are in my control, I don't want to spend hours creating a little family, only to find that they've moved out of my neighbourhood, or got divorced etc.

Really sad. I uninstalled all my Sims 2 games as well :(

Ok so I have a family that had 5 simmies. Now I want to take the first-born daughter out of the house and start a brand new game with her only, but when I move her out she's not playable :( Does anyone know how to move children out and have them still be playable? Please help :(

From the menu choose edit town then choose the lot your sim is on and you can move them out and place them in another house and make them active if you want and you can switch between the two if you really want to. Hope that helps

Ok so when it took me a minute to figure this out also. whille you are playing a family you have to go to Options...Edit Neighborhood...then when it takes you to neighborhood view you have to click a little button that says change household... You will loose your wishes (this dosent bother me they always come back again). Then you get the option to play another lot or move another family. Took me a minute to figure out how to get both the family's i wanted to play in the same neighborhood.

HAHA!! good for you! it only took you a minute or so to figure this one out. for me, it took me like FOREVER......did i say that right?? let me say that again FOR-E-VER!!!!! actually, took 3 days to figure it out. BUT, theres a catch if you dont want to loose any relationship, job or whatsoever from your previous family you need to disable the Story Progression and/or Aging.

NOW, thats the part i dont understand or is it a bug or its just how it works?? somebody tell me. is there a certain time or place or whatever to disable those features if you want to play another household in the same neighborhood? because i truned off the story progression and aging when i played on another household (i want the "new" sim to be a perfect husband for my "old" sim household) and i saved my old sim before i entered EDIT TOWN MODE.

when i was playing my new sim (perfect husband) then had an interaction and conversation with my old sim (soon to be wife) it says there that the career of my old sim has been degraded and she even sell the theater herself! BUT she didnt aged! i was like what the hell!! i worked hard for that old sim to reach to wherever she was.

i didnt use a cheat or two when i was playing her! (i didnt know theres a cheat too so yeah) and then, i decided to use a cheat on my new sim so that he could marry my old sim so that i could control her career and life! its was really a big deal for me. I WORKED so hard for her money, fame and glory! she was at the top of the music career! she was a rockstar! holding autograph sessions! she was living on a mansion while receiving the profit from the theater she bought!

it was crap! so, disabling story progression is a flop? or theres a certain way/time on when to disable it on a certain household? GOD! somebody please answer me! and the story progression doesnt apply to the NPC in the town after all! but the aging does! uhgg!!! anyone knows? or anyone who can relate with this?? AAAHHH!!!!

I've read through this but what I don't understand is where my game saves have gone. On the main menu, it says Riverview and Sunset Valley. None of them have an active household, because there isn't a picture of a family. I am able to load Riverview, i haven't played it yet so there are no families I have created and saved. But it won't let me load Sunset valley, where between me and my sister we have a few families saved and we saved them in the neigbhourhood through Edit Town. All i can do is start a new game. Any suggestions?

Unless they've come up with an update or patch while I was sleeping overnight, Story Progession isn't working atm. They are working on the problem as we speak. There's a link somebody posted on this thread that goes to the official Sims 3 website's forums and talks about it.

Hey! I think I figured out what to do about adult sims who seem to randomly show up in a household that you don't play for a while. This is what you do:

Have an unwanted adult sim (not sure if it works with young adults. doesn't with kids or teens tho.) use the cell phone or house phone and click on move out or move or something like that. There will be 2 windows that come up. One of the options in one of the windows will be "kick out". Click on that making sure that you have the right peeps you want kicked out. Click on the check mark and you are good to go.

I did this for my sim who had not one but 3 sims that moved in to her house while I wasn't looking. One adult and 2 teens. I said "I am not having this!" lol I proceeded to find a way to get them out and voila. I think they were moochers or something. lol

Anyway, hope this helps!

Switching to play another household is so confusing because who would think of going to "Edit town" to switch households? Why couldn't they label it "select household to play"??

When I think of "Edit town" I actually think I am going to edit the whole town! For some reason I can't switch to another household from the answers here in this forum, it keeps showing up my last household I played even when I select the other house. I may have to mess around with it more.

When you go to edit town, are you then selecting "Change Active Family" before clicking the other lot?

Click Edit town (choose to save or just continue as you wish), then when you get into the neighbourhood screen, click the little double house icon over on the left hand side of the UI and it should ask you if you're sure you want to switch and then warn you it will lose all the wishes. If you click yes twice, it should take you back to the Choose a Household to play option.

Yes I've done that but my game froze up the 2 times I tried to switch families. I had to ctrl-alt-dlt out of there. I don't understand why they had to do a round about way if you want to play another family let alone build a house on an empty lot. Too many steps to take, but there are still some nice things about the Sims 3.

I totally understand how to do this now. Thanks to this forum. However, when I had the oldest sim of the family graduate, I selected the computer and MOVE. I then had to her move into the house next door. I decided not to play her YET.. as I read that I could play her later. So after her sister also moved out, same day (they were twins), I went to edit town, change households, and neither of them was in the house I chose to put them in. They were nowhere in the neighborhood that I could see. This was immediately after moving them out. They are not even in the bin. So what did I do wrong?

:(

Oh and also, to see if they still existed, I had the mom call one of them on the phone. They talked soooo.. WTH!

Mod Edit: I've merged your two posts together. You have a 10 minute window in which to edit your posts by using the Scissors icon found between the Report and Quote buttons on the bottom right hand side

you know what?? ALL OF YOU.... i think, for me, its either THIS:

i think EA should give us a LOT of choices on whether who should affect the story progression thing. like a checking thing whatever. like, you want the whole neighbourhood to be affected by the disabling of the story progression or you want to select certain/specific households? then you click one of the choices. most likely we would click specific households then it should give us a list of all "playable" households in the neighborhood WITH a picture of the family and a little box on the left side of the picture which is uncheck.

then you check the household/s that you want to be affected by disabling the story progression, because after all you want to disable story progression (explaining why does all "playable" household on the neighborhood is uncheck). then a confirmation box think would appear with yes/no buttons to click then voila! story progression is off for that certain household/for the whole neighborhood. gosh! ANYONE AGREES WITH ME??

I have a problem. When i start a new game or create new sims, i move in and my sims from my other saved games arent in the neighborhood, because i want my new sims to interact with my old ones.

Starting a new game does just that, gives you a fresh version of the hood to play.

If you want to add new sims to an existing town, you'll need to go to edit town, change active family and add them that way.

One of my other sim families just disappeared on me too, and I did NOT create a new game. They were part of one house hold that split off into 2 seperate ones, which i've been flipping between constantly, and now one family has completely disappeared. My first family still shows them in the family tree (they were related) but they are nowhere to be found in town. Mod Edit: Please read TSR's forum on language policy

Have you tried telephoning them to see if they're still alive?

Its annoying that a family will have some members moveout of town since your not playing them, I had a large family and when the daughter grew up and became a adult, she moved out of the family house and her parents and siblings all moved out of town.

Why couldn't it be one of the townie sims which moved out.
