Hi everyone, first time submitting a story to TSR here so hopefully everyone enjoys it :) . I'm doing a Legacy with kind of Just Me rules. When I choose an heir I'll switch to their point of view of things but in the 3rd person. So here is my founder, Lisbeth Salander (Screenshot). She's Brave, Hot-Headed, Genius, Computer Whiz, and Perceptive with the LTW of Pervasive Private Eye.

I'm also posting the story on a Sims story blog. The link is in my sig.

Lisbeth Salander looked disdainfully at the tiny surroundings she found herself in. (1) It was a small shack on a large property in the town of Barnacle Bay in whatever simforsaken state the witness protection program moved her to. One bathroom with half a kitchen and an area for a table, desk, and small bed. When she was a hacker for the mob she lived in a grand penthouse in Bridgeport with access to the hottest clubs and all the luxuries she could ever want.

"Why did I have to start having a conscious?" she bemoaned herself.

Five years of her young adult life hacking into government and rival gangs' databases with no problem but when she saw the truly ugly side of the mob with the gnome labor rings and mummy smuggling.
She had become an informant to the Federal Bureau of Simvestigation, or FBS, and became a witness when they pressed charges against the number 2 man Sonny "Sticky Hands" Maggio. After that she couldn't stay in Bridgeport any longer and was put under witness protection.

Now here she found herself in a coastal town with local "flavor". She was a bit apprehensive when the agent from witness protection said flavor while gesticulating quotes but she was used to some crazy company so it couldn't be all that bad...could it?

Lisbeth didn't do much that first night in Barnacle Bay...not even sleep. Outside her humble, little shack was some nut job in an apron playing his guitar and singing pirate songs until dawn. (1) So it was no surprise that when she finally decided trying to sleep was futile and got up to explore the town no one wanted to speak to the strange looking girl who seemed to be on a quest to kick over someone's lawn flamingo. (2)

After some time, Lisbeth found herself in a quiet park somewhere in the center of the town. Or at least she thought it was the center. It was difficult for her to get her bearings in the place and as she looked around her she wondered if there was a place that sold maps. Surely a town so, oh what's the word, kitschy would be some sort of tourist trap. She then spied an empty chess table and smiled crookedly to herself.

"Well, I guess if I'm to have some intelligent rapport it'll have to be with myself," she said aloud in a mocking tone and sat down to duel herself in a game of chess. (3)

Several hours later, she rubbed her eyes as the setting sun started to shine in them. It was only then that she noticed she was hungry. She put herself (white) in check and stretched as she got up from the chair. A bit further down - what she assumed was - the main strip was a building that looked like a barn but had some loud music pumping out the doors and windows. Lisbeth went closer and looked at a sign outside that said "The Wanderer's Watering Hole" drawn up on a chalkboard by what she could envision a four year old would do. But the establishment advertised drinks and food so she thought, "Eh, what the hey?" and stepped inside.

They really were playing up the whole barn theme and had barrels decorating the place as well as rope and post fencing. But it was lively with many sims chattering away and getting happy on fruity cocktails. "Now this is more like it," she smiled to herself.

She chose a stool at the end of the bar and a charming older bartender came up and asked, "What'll yer have dollface?" "Hmm do you know how to make a Spine Reticulator?" "Deri know it? Yer lookin' at thar mastar of it!" he said with a boastful laugh. She grinned at him and said,"Well, all right then! I'll have one and a second on the way...and give me an order of the greasiest bar food you've got!"

The bartender worked on her drinks and whistled what sounded like Yohoho and a Bottle of Rum. When he gave her the cocktail she sipped demurely at it and the man was not just being boastful. It was the best Spine Reticulator she'd ever had. (4) Two cocktails and a belly full of nachos later, she decided to get up and start mingling with the colorful denizens of Barnacle Bay. (5)

She found them all to actually be very clever and great to talk to. But after a while she noticed that many people wore pirate hats and some had strong pirate accents, such as the bartender. Her curiosity finally got to her enough that she asked one of the other patrons why everyone was acting like pirates. "Is there some sort of pirate festival going on?" "Hahaha! Yeah girlie all year long!" "Huh? You mean you're like this all the time?" "Surely you ain't tellin' me you don't know about ol' Barnacle Bay? Why it's the last remaining bastion o' piracy! Now I ain't sayin' we all do the lootin' and pillagin' but most o' us come from a long line o' pirate ancestors. In fact, the town was founded by Jackie Black."

Lisbeth was familiar with the name. Jackie Black was one of the most notorious pirates back in the day; for being ruthless if you were against you but fair if you were part of the crew. But most of all, Jackie Black was the only matriarchal pirate that came to such infamy. It was all the elementary history books.

As the night wore on the cocktails started to make her sleepy so she hailed a taxi and went home. She was very pleased with today. At first, she was very unhappy being put in a town she thought was the middle of nowhere. To find out it was actually a pirate town put a smile on her face. All this time Lisbeth was thinking she would die of boredom but now she just knew her life was going to be full of surprises.

"Y'arr" she quietly said to herself as she fell asleep.

Thanks for reading! :)

Lisbeth had been doing nothing but party since she'd arrived at Barnacle Bay. But it was honestly getting to her. She was always used to hard partying but she also had a job to do back in the city. Lisbeth was starting to get bored with all the partying. Her demeanor hadn't gone unnoticed among her friends. One night, when she was attending a party at the home of all around good-time guy Alec Trebo he pulled her off to the side for a talk.

(1)He ignored the presence of one of his many former lovers, Jasmine Noon, and began questioning her. "What's going on with you kiddo? You don't seem like your usual spunky self...why you haven't even touched any of my 'special' punch." "Oh...sorry Alec. I think I'm just in a slump. I've been doing nothing but party since I've moved here." "...I don't see the problem." Lisbeth rolled her eyes at Alec, "I'm not used to just sitting around doing nothing. Before I came here I lived off of coffee and two hours of sleep because I was working as well as partying." "So why don't you get a job then?" "Hah! I don't exactly have a lot of skills people are looking for Alec." "You'd be surprised what people are looking for here in Barnacle Bay. How do you think I came upon all this grandeur?" he said as he gestured to the fine art surrounding them. Lisbeth took a hard look at her friend. As far as she was aware all he did was go around flirting with the female sims of the area...Well, if he could make a living as a kept man maybe she could find something catered to her special skills.

The next morning she placed an online ad (2)

She had hoped there would be a fast reponse but she wasn't expecting an e-mail 30 seconds after her post.

I know who you are.
Open up your IM.

Lisbeth felt her throat close and her heart pounding out of her chest. She took a look outside her windows until she was satisfied there was no one there and launched her IM.

Mr.X: Hello Lisbeth. You're probably wondering how I know you. Well, it wasn't too difficult to find out that you're probably in the top 5 of the mob's hit list. It was sloppy of the FBS to keep your real name.

Lisbeth blinked at the screen and instantly felt her face flush with anger.

SaLamander: Yeah well they thought it would be Ok since I was only known by my handle...Who are you and more importantly are you going to snitch? Cuz if you are I think you ought to know I have a tracer program on my machine...
Mr.X: LOL no no. Sorry. I can see that I scared you a bit too much. I actually want to offer you a job. You see I'm a part of a small circle that make a living off being what you call "information specialists". Only we do some legwork too. None of this sitting behind the screen getting fat. Though from what I hear that's not a problem you've got.

Lisbeth looked at her scrawny body. No, no problem with getting fat here. She'd actually been accused of being anorexic by people who weren't around when she would decimate the extra large pizzas. She thought for a moment. Obviously this person was probably a hacker too and it didn't seem like they were hired out by the mob. It seemed more like this was someone that either was in or knew people in her network back in Bridgeport.

Mr.X: Still there?
SaLamander: Yeah I'm here. So what's this job about?
Mr.X: Sec. Let me send you the file. You'll primarily be contacted via e-mail. I assume you've got a smartphone?
SaLamander: Do you even really need an answer to that? :P
Mr.X: Heh no. We'll be in tough. ttyl
Mr.X: touch*

Mr.X has signed off.

Lisbeth quickly opened up her inbox and kept refreshing until she saw the message with the attachment. She actually felt giddy with the anticipation and quickly started reading through the material. Then she realized what she had signed up for. She was going to be a Private Eye. For a second she blinked at the monitor then started cackling with laughter. "This is as shady as it can get while still being called legit. I think I'm going to have some fun."

Her first forray into private investigation involved a stakeout at one of the local parks. It was for a suspicious husband who's pretty, young wife kept on disappearing to the park at 2 pm everyday for the past three weeks. It was not as inconspicuous as she would've liked. (3)

But the venture did end up fruitful. It turned out the wife was planning a surprise anniversary party at the park and was trying to organize all of her husband's extended family for a rendition of their wedding song. Lisbeth told the man a partial truth. The wife was meeting a vocal instructor so she could surprise him for his anniversary. The man was much relieved and thanked her. That weekend when their anniversary party came up the man called her and thanked her profusely and the wife chimed in the mouthpiece thanking her for the discretion. She was invited to join the party but declined and returned to her computer to check for more cases.

After a couple of weeks of sleuthing and sneaking around she noticed that her body was feeling pain in ways she could never imagine before. "Ugh I'm so out of shape. Who knew it would be this physical?" Lisbeth decided to go to the community gym that day. Unfortunately, she wasn't doing so well. It seemed that she was worse off excersizing. (4)

"This can't be right," she muttered to herself. On her fifth time falling off the treadmill she was ready to kick the machine and send it back to its maker in pieces but instead calmed down and counted to 10...30....50...100. Phew. "I'm a PI, I'm sure I can find a logical reason why this machine won't work." So she got her equipment out of her bag (never leave home without it) and started searching for clues. (5)

Unfortunately, the case of The Renegade Treadmill never was solved.

As Lisbeth continued her work as a PI she found she was not always hired for, er, crucial cases. Such as the case of the Missing Flora the Explorer Toothbrush! (1)

But after discovering that the toothbrush had been hidden by a jealous older sibling she decided that crucial was relative. She was enjoying her work and found that her initial assumption that most people who hired PI's would be a bit shady was unwarranted. Until one day she was hired by Aeisha Inkbeard... (2)

Aeisha hired Lisbeth because she thought her brother-in-law, Juan Jr. Inkbeard, was falling in with the wrong crowd. She said that he'd always been a bit of a harmless scamp but lately he seemed to be getting into more dangerous pursuits. Lisbeth understood how a sister-in-law might be looking out for the well-being of her family so she took the case.

First, she decided to snoop around his home for clues. She couldn't very well break in but no one in Barnacle Bay seemed to have issue with people going through the trash. Many times she had noticed the residents rifling through each other's garbage; they called it "treasure hunting". (3)

Curiously, she saw nothing to indicate a sim living a hard lifestyle was ever in residence. In her former life, she knew some hard partying sims. Sims who got too into the bubble blower and juice. All she found in this sim's trash were sheets of awful song lyrics. But Lisbeth continued snooping and decided to check his mail next. All she found in there were coupons, credit card offers, and a subscription to Funny Bunny Cute Animal Magazine. No past due bill notices, not even a bikini magazine! Something was tickling the back of her brain, it just didn't add up. (4)

Lisbeth decided to go home and do a quick check on her employer. Aeisha Inkbeard was not the concerned sister-in-law she seemed to be. After hacking into her personal computer she noticed that there were a ton of Smoogle searches on how to frame a sim and inheritance laws. Suddenly the pieces started to fit together. Aeisha Inkbeard's mother and father-in-law were currently living with her and her family. But Juan Jr. had always been their favorite son, not her husband Morgan. It was apparent Aeisha -- probably feeling rather slighted that she had to take on the burden of caring for her elderly in-laws -- was trying to find a way to show Juan Jr. in an unfavorable light and get Morgan in their will with the bulk of any inheritance. Lisbeth had enough of the charade and promptly set a meeting with Aeisha.

"Well, I heard you were good but I didn't expect you to find something so quickly," Aeisha grinned as she approached Lisbeth. "Yeah, I'm not just good...I'm the best. Which is why I want you to just pay my retainer fee and get out of my face." "Wh-what?" Aeisha stammered. (5)

"I know what you're up to," Lisbeth said in a low voice as she pulled out the search history printouts. "Just be glad I'm not blackmailing you for more. If I were a different sim..." Aeisha stared at the printouts, her face becoming flush with anger? With embarrassment? It was hard to say. But Aeisha took out $650 agreed upon and handed it to Lisbeth, unable to look her in the face. Another case solved, even if it wasn't the case she was hired to do.

I received a message from darlingviola telling me her PC decided to "die" on her :( and she lost her legacy. The same thing has happened to me so I know how upsetting that can be! Hopefully she will come back with another legacy after her computer is straightened out. :)
