I am playing a sim who is seriously into photography for the first time. He is level 10 in photography, and up to job level 8 in the photographer career. I have been trying to complete some of the photo collections, but I am having difficulty taking the photos I need. For example, I need a photo of the school. So my sim stands outside of the school and focuses his camera on the school. No matter where I move the focus, it won't say "school" under the photo - just "a nice garden' or something like that.
I am also having similar problems with the spa, kitchen kitsch, bathroom stuff, watermelons, and several other things.
Has anyone else had these sort of issues, or does anyone know if I am doing something wrong or are there any tips that might help?

It sounds like you may be too close. Try standing across the street and see what happens. When my Sim was in the central park in my hood she could take pics of the city hall, movie theatre, police department, etc. all across the street from the park.

Yes I had this more than once.
It's rather hard to get a photo of the plants in a garden with lots of plants. Here I just take plant by plant place them on a rather empty spot and my sims can take the photo without any problems.
There is the challenge to get a photo of the diner. I've really tried it more than 50 times - I couldn't get the photo of the diner in Riverview. But when my sims moved to Sunset Valley she's got the photo of the diner at first try. So I thought there might be something wrong with the diner in Riverview.
The only thing I've never managed to get is the photo of the shower in the bin - no matter where I place it, on the ground on a counter or where ever - the camera wouldn't identify this item.
I tried for a long time with the kitchen kitsch and found out it works well when focussing this bowl/canister/bin with the wooden spoons, you know with this hens painting on it. I know I got the bathroom stuff, too, but don't remember right what I focussed (towels?) - I'll report back when I've found it.
Gems and metalls are rather easy to focus when placing them on the small stand.
Hope you'll get it to work!
