I just wanted to change some of sims' skin textures, those that are in the textures.far file (bathsuits, pijamas, etc.). I got Far Edit, so I could open the file, and changed the textures (the BMPs)... I used exactly the same names as the originals, but the bmp was other. But apart from that, I wanted everything to be exactly like the original textures file, so I put the files listed in the same order, all the files and folder offset are exactly the same, just as the file names (except for the roots of the new images)... so the file is almost exactly the same, but when I play the game all textures from the file appear as missing - I only can see skins that I downloaded from somewhere else, and when a sim uses an original game texture it is replaced by a downladed one. What am I doing wrong? Can you help me? I'd prefer to not have to download anything more and keep it in editing the files I have, but if it's the only way solving the problem will download whatever I need.

By the way, I only have the basic Sims and House Party, but no other EP.

Messing around in the .far files is very risky and definitely not recommended unless you have an advanced knowledge of the game. To accomplish what you are setting out to do (replace the Maxis skins with ones of your choice), it is better to leave the far file alone, and instead let the game read the new files from the Skins folder. All you need to do is make sure the new files are named exactly as the Maxis files are named so that those new files will override the Maxis defaults.
