I am trying to build a two story house using the multi-sroty columns at the front porch/door area. I have the two stories and have placed the columns on the porch. When I go to put the roof on, the column area is completely ignored. How do I get a roof to cover the area over/between the columns? I tried placing a floor between the columns, but that didn't work.

Were you trying to use the Auto-Roof option? To the best of my knowledge, this will only cover those roof areas formed by solid walls. You would need to manually place the roof to cover the area between columns, probably by starting at the outermost corner of the column, dragging across to the outermost corner of the other column, then dragging in towards the rest of the roof to cover everything else.
This would be the same technique for stretching a roof over fencing posts and arches as well.
I hope I was clear enough; sometimes I have trouble explaining things.
