I suggest making sure that Generations is in the list under "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except for those I select" if anybody is running Windows 7.

But this CTD problem is one I have been having off and on since installing the base game. It's not a huge problem, just irritating when there is something important going on. The best way around it that I have found is to save your game often. Especially after special events where there is alot going on and after making any changes to your Sims' home, appearance or clothing. It appears EA doesn't have a fix or even a clue as to how to fix it.

Every sims 3 game needs to be added to the list, otherwise it will crash.

Did you read our guide to installing a new EP? You should be installing into a clean game, even Twallan's mods, which are usually fine with a new EP or stuff pack, should be removed unless he says they are okay.
Anyone suffering crashing issues needs to make sure you are installing and patching into a clean game with NO CC, no Mods, no hacks nothing but EA content. You can either drag your Electronic Arts folder to the desktop or you can rename it to allow the game to create a fresh install which is the one you patch and install Generations into.
You also need to remember to put back any files you may have altered to use certain hacks etc and anything you may have removed from the Library of the base game.

I have not done this. I installed Generations and played a bit (mostly building, some short moments in life mode) and never had the crash problem then. Then when the patch came out I installed it without removing anything and then played some more. (I did update my mods before playing again) Crashing started to occur some time after this.
I now wonder if I'd be able to uninstall and reinstall everything clean (including the patch) and then STILL be able to put back my old game to have to same effect of installing "clean" in the first place? Or would that now make no difference anymore, since I've already played since installing the patch "wrongly"? (Hope I'm making myself clear haha)
