I have just installed the Sims 3 Generations. For some reason, my game keeps crashing when I begin loading my family. I do have twallan's story progression mod. Is there a way around fixing this?

Twallan has advised anyone using his story progression mod to wait for a Generations compatible version. So, I would take out the version you are using now.

I am crashing too as soon as I get to the family. My computer is saying a DEP problem. I set cff explorer to allow over 2GB and still am crashing.

I was getting a BEX crash, found out it was a DEP error. Gave TS3E04.exe and the Sims 3 launcher an exception. Haven't crashed since, though the game is running a bit choppy.

I suggest making sure that Generations is in the list under "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except for those I select" if anybody is running Windows 7.

I just crashed again. I had my game the first time and this time a newly generated game. I did set the game exe for over 2GB but not the launcher. Will try that. I am fine in build and buy but as soon as I open a family it crashes. I just tried the Goths in a clean SV and CTD immediately.

I have Vista.

The first time I loaded the game it crashed. I added Generations to the allowable programs on DEP and that seemed to settle things down. Until I went into CAS. It crashed to desktop just once then didn't do it again. I did remove all mods and package files, and I deleted all cache files before starting the game.

But this CTD problem is one I have been having off and on since installing the base game. It's not a huge problem, just irritating when there is something important going on. The best way around it that I have found is to save your game often. Especially after special events where there is alot going on and after making any changes to your Sims' home, appearance or clothing. It appears EA doesn't have a fix or even a clue as to how to fix it.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you,Lee. But the DEP warning came up just once when I fired up the game for the first time. So hopefully that will be it for you as well. I wish I knew code so I could see what is in the EP that prompts the DEP warning in the first place.

Well, I was just able to play a bit but my game is a total mess, and so I am starting the bug thread.

Remind me again please: what is DEP and how do I access it? Thanx.

start menu, control panel, system, advanced system options (it is to the left side, not in the icon list), preformance, data execution program tab.

Every sims 3 game needs to be added to the list, otherwise it will crash.

Did you read our guide to installing a new EP? You should be installing into a clean game, even Twallan's mods, which are usually fine with a new EP or stuff pack, should be removed unless he says they are okay.

Anyone suffering crashing issues needs to make sure you are installing and patching into a clean game with NO CC, no Mods, no hacks nothing but EA content. You can either drag your Electronic Arts folder to the desktop or you can rename it to allow the game to create a fresh install which is the one you patch and install Generations into.
You also need to remember to put back any files you may have altered to use certain hacks etc and anything you may have removed from the Library of the base game.

My game was freezing after a few seconds of live play after installing Generations. I did the DEP fix and that seems to have fixed it - I managed about 2 hours of play this evening without a crash :>

I have crash issues too. Even after the DEP"fix". Nothing seems to solve it. Sometimes I can play only about 2 minutes, sometimes it's as long as 10, but ultimately, it WILL crash...

I have not done this. I installed Generations and played a bit (mostly building, some short moments in life mode) and never had the crash problem then. Then when the patch came out I installed it without removing anything and then played some more. (I did update my mods before playing again) Crashing started to occur some time after this.
I now wonder if I'd be able to uninstall and reinstall everything clean (including the patch) and then STILL be able to put back my old game to have to same effect of installing "clean" in the first place? Or would that now make no difference anymore, since I've already played since installing the patch "wrongly"? (Hope I'm making myself clear haha)
