Official word is that The Sims 3 and the new OS X, Lion, are NOT COMPATIBLE.

There have been a few rare cases where people with other graphic cards have reported being able to play, but no one whose Mac has any version of the NVIDIA Geforce 9400 has gotten the game to run.

So upgrade at your own risk if you must, but as I said at this point in time, the The Sims 3 and Lion are not compatible.

Hopefully EA will upgrade The Sims 3 for compatibility soon, just as many other app developers also need to upgrade their apps for compatibility.

ETA: Looks like the rating has been changed to say that the game is now compatible with Lion, but certain Macs will freeze when trying to play it. Appears to be a graphics card issue.

Hi everyone! I haven't been here in ages it seems... It's interesting to read this since I just upgraded to Lion last week, upgraded my ram and had my entire logic board replaced because it was bad (yay for warranties). I should've figured there might be a compatibility issue but it didn't occur to me at the time since I was just excited to be able to play the game on a newly upgraded system thinking my issues would be solved. The game was running terribly before the upgrades. Crashing constantly. But after the upgrades, I have to say it runs great... with one little annoying exception. The game freezes every time when I'm in Create a Sim. I tend to get sims that are either faded, fully black or made up of polygons (looks cool actually, like a black/purple quartz lol). It may also crash randomly when in Build/Buy mode giving me a debugging error that I can only choose "yes" o "no" to but either way quits the game. That doesn't happen every time though. The rest of the time it's pretty much fine. I have repaired permissions, and removed a lot of old CC, including all the ".package" files in the Mods folder (the game loads so much faster when that folder is empty!). I don't know if there's maybe a known bug about these issues. Mainly the Create a Sim freeze. I have read about the debug error but have not found an answer yet as to how to fix it. Any thoughts?

I still haven't upgraded to Lion because of other programs, but I still get the debug errors that quit the game. But not very often. I just have to make sure I save frequently.

I hadn't read that the 2 were incompatable. I upgraded as soon as Lion came out and currently run OS 10.7.3 and my game never crashed or got error messages until I installed Showtime. It does mostly OK, but I can count on at least one crash every several real time hours. I just save often also. The most irritating crash was in CAS. I was half way through designing a sim ...grrr!!! Now I also save about halfway through the design process and then delete the unfinished one when the completed one has been saved to the CAS bin to use later.
Yesterday is history and tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift and that's why it's called the present.

I am using lion now, with the new retina display macbook pro. it runs like a train - with no problems at all. so whatever problems there were, must have been fixed by now.
