Weird Things Happening in Generations

1) I hired the butler, he shows up for one day and then he doesn't show up anymore but I can't fire/cancel him without being in the house
2) My sims randomly disappear
3) Sims losing meals -- French Toast and Dim Sum not showing anymore and the sim is at level 10
I heard mention of deleting Cache files -- which ones are they? I would really hate to delete something I am not supposed to and ruin my game.
Please help!!!

I have experience missing sims. What I do is I save them in the bin and started in a fresh town, another thing you can do is to use twallan mod, esp, the overwatcher, and error trap. it is available at nraas industries forum.

Okay so I used that Delphy thing and cleared the cache and still not working right. The wife reads the recipes but they are not showing when you go to cook. The kid came back after he turned to a child and went to school the first day.l The butler is still being paid but he is not showing on my lot.
Now looking back on the issues I am having, they did not start until I installed the latest update. This is the second time I had to restart a family because one day they all went to school and all the kids got killed by a meteorite. No kidding, saw a bubble that said "Child" is reacting to meteorite, clicked on the school and he was under it and then his twin sisters died. I was pissed but I had to laugh at it.
Okay, so back to the issue at hand. The butler is the only NPC I have problems with since installing Generations. I know it's not the computer because it is only 3 months old, but here are the specs in any event.....
HP TouchSmart 610t customizable Desktop PC
• Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
• Intel® Core i3-560 dual-core processor [3.3GHz, 512KB L2 + 4MB shared L3 cache, DMI 2.5GT/s]
• 8GB DDR3-1066MHz SODIMM [2 DIMMs]
• 1TB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive
• No additional office software
• No additional security software
• 2GB ATI Radeon HD 5570
• Slot-load SuperMulti DVD burner with Lightscribe
• Wireless-N LAN card
• 6-in-1 memory card reader, 4 total USB, Beats audio
• No TV Tuner
• Integrated sound
• HP wireless keyboard and wireless optical mouse
• No Game Console
So why is the game acting so goofy????!!!!! :)

The training items should be in the family inventory, (the box in buy mode) not his personal inventory.

Are you sure you have all the ingredients necessary for the recipe? I've not had all the ingredients for the recipe before so the option to make the recipe didn't show up. :)

Also, I've had to re-start a family three times due to the game completely crashing and corrupting to the point that it was no longer playable. I've noticed that twice when it happened was right after I got the message that all the adults in the household just won a free vacation and that the teenagers could manage things at home. The adults became "browned out" and they were not playable. In the meantime, the kids that were left behind were playable for a little while, but then they started hanging up and then suddenly I completely lost my sim panel. (if that's what it's called...the panel on the left that shows all of your sims and allows you to choose which sims to play) Since I no longer had a sim panel, obviously I could not play. I was able to use F5 to bring up the game options panel and save my game so that I could re-start it and see if it would work. It didn't. It never was playable after that....the sim panel never came back even after deleting my cache files and restarting my computer and the game. When I restarted the family and got the "free vacation" message again, literally the same day my sim came home after having triplets, I clicked the X instead of the check mark, hoping that I would not corrupt this game as well. Well it started messing up again right after that and I haven't yet tried to play it tonight. I hope this family isn't now corrupted too because this is really getting aggravating having to start over all the time.
My sims disappear regularly causing me to have to resetsim several times during the game. It always seems to get worse after my sims begin having children. The first time my game crashed was right after they had come home from the hospital. Both the baby and the dad disappeared and neither would reset because he was holding the baby at the time, so apparently you can't reset one sim if it's attached to another one.
My game is such a mess that I'm hoping that the next EP will fix it. :(

Edited to add: I'm also having a problem with the butlers. I think someone mentioned this in another thread, but I can't find it again. The first time I hired a butler, got a room ready for him and everything, he just disappeared. I tried to invite him over so that I could "dismiss" him, but when HE arrived, he was now a WOMAN!!! Do they do sex changes in Sims 3? Anyway, so I fired "her" and hired another butler. This time I added him to the family so he would stay. That seemed to work fine and he still acted as the butler.

What version does the launcher say on it? Also what is your base game patched to (there are a number of icons on the Launcher, if you hover over the first base game one it should tell you).
The current versions should be:
Sims 3 Patch 1.22
WA Patch 2.17
HEL Patch 3.13
AMB Patch 4.10
FL Patch 5.8
LN Patch 6.5
OLS Patch 7.3
GEN Patch 8.0
TLS Patch 9.0
Or - depending on which is the final installed EP or Stuff Pack:
Base Game - 1.24.3.010002
World Adventures - 2.0.86.002002
High End Loft Stuff - 3.0.38.004001
Ambitions - 4.0.87.006001
Fast Lane Stuff - 5.2.4.009001
Late Night - 6.1.11.009001
Outdoor Stuff - 7.0.55.01001
Generations - 8.0.152.001001
Town Life Stuff - 9.0.73.012001

The one highlighted in red is the one that won't update for me. I'm going to try what you said before I give up completely. I've dragged my Sims 3 folder completely out of MyDocuments so that the game will create a new one. Keeping my fingers crossed that it works this time because I'm ready to just quit playing all together with as bad as it's been.
