Recently I just completed my Egyptian Experience (thanks to all you very talented creators who have submitted your creative stuff to make my in game buildings and neighborhood possible). I tested it in a fresh copy of Pleasantville using my two favorites...Don and Dina.
I had forgot how naive they had been in the beginning. They look up at me as if searching for a cue from me and not always to complain. They are curious about everything and when they are out and about they go off on the lot and check things out and greet every sim on the lot. Later, as their skills become maxed out and their interests, Don is still happy to be the center of attention, but Dina will go off and lounge on a sofa to wait for him.

I came back to Sims 2 last summer and I've had great fun rediscovering everything.

I was a bit dubious, I wondered if it might feel like a step backwards after Sims 3 (grrrrrrrr to them :D ), but I made my first little family and put them on a lot. First thing, one of them started skipping all by herself - I'd forgotten they could do that - then the fat white Siamese cat came along wanting attention. I was back in love with it in no time.

I'd never had custom content in Sims 2 before, but I started to download a few bit and pieces (sims packs) and then, in January, Degara Sara gave me just the few words of encouragement I needed so that, finally, the little light bulb went on above my head and I managed to download and open zip and winrar files. So, a BIG THANK YOU to her.

Well, there's been no holding me back and I've had a very happy couple of months creating my Medieval and Eastern neighbourhoods. I'd like to say 'thanks' to the creators too. It's amazing how generous they all are - I made two new games to make sure I could get everything in.

Some of the stuff I've got is about 5 or 6 years old, but it's all new to me.

My sims look beautiful now, with their new faces, skins, hair and realistic eyes. I nearly cried the first time a 'proper' little person looked out of the (CAS) screen at me. I like it in the game, too, when they look up to ask you what you're looking at when you zoom in.

I've got a 'base' game where I can just play the original three neighbourhoods with all their families. I used Strangetown to practice for setting up an oriental neighbourhood. It looked like ancient Babylon by the time I'd finished with it. :)

I've always loved sims 2 and it's been wonderful to give it a new lease of life - with the mods and new careers, as well as the other stuff, it's been better than getting an expansion pack.

Thanks everyone here, Degara Sara and the TSR creators and any other creators who may be reading this - I can't tell you how grateful I am.

I went back to Sims 2, too..i was getting very tired of not being able to create for Sims 3..lol. I just love to see my own stuff in my own game. And since i have everything Sims 2, I am back at enjoying Pets!!!..having a home business, college, and all those differents seasons that bring back alot of the fun, in this game. And children are alowed gardening..and..there are gardeners! yay!!!
I love their faces better, children do not look scary and dumb...
And oh yes!!! ratsrbest, you remind me of this..when you zoom in, and the sims is wondering what's happening..this is so very cute. And they also seems more aware of their world, probably because of the animations. A sim can be at his computer, but will turn his head and make faces, at a cat, a dog or anyone else passing by them. i love this too.
Sims 2 is very neat. :)
Now i need getting back into "ze create mode" :)

I've been letting my families adopt stray cats and dogs and couldn't believe that I'd missed seeing the pets begging for scraps at the table. I'll swear I never noticed it before, but it's so sweet. The pet has a 'starving' thought bubble and the sim throws them some food.

My latest family has a toddler and a small dog - how funny when the toddler hugs the poor long suffering dog, who gives herself a good shaking when she escapes.

And yes, aren't Sims 3 kids scary looking :D Have you ever seen one standing beside the desk watching someone play on a computer? Enough to give a person shivers.

LOL! yes! poor sims3 kids...Some simmers have succeeded in making children look good..with some default this and default that.
But of course, imagine the trouble finding, downloading all of this just so your sims looks OK.
Oh!!1 and i had forgotten about the Gym teacher, who comes to your YA in UNI to scold them for not working out..lol My sim was not in a good moon yesterday, and just burst into tears and whiiiiine like a baby..this was funny. :)

It took a while, but after playing Sims 3 for a while I decided to switch back to Sims 2.

While the backgrounds in Sims 3 are beautiful, I feel like Sims 2 has more to it as far as the Sims go than what the new one has now.
It is easier to download custom content and create, especially with the kids. It's difficult to make them look okay in the Sims 3.

And I've forgotten how sweet it was so see my couple Sims interact. For example, the slow dance option isn't in the Sims 3... and me being a romantic and loving weddings... I can't have a wedding without a slow dance option.

I might switch back if the Sims 3 meets my expectations one day, but right now I have so much more appreciation for Sims 2.

That's just me, though, I guess.

I never really left the Sims 2. I tried the Sims 3 out for a while and I feel it's a step backwards rather than forwards in a lot of ways. So I stuck around.

Oh boy!!! Do I agree with this statement! lol.
Creating...this is I think, what I've missed the most, playing the Sims 3. Seeing my own creations in my own game, being in aaaawwwwwe staring at my sims wearing their new Rosie clothings and playing with their new Rosie doll and stuff.. :)
Oh..and the general look of the Sims 2 people.

So yeah..I'll have a bunch of new things for sharing! ahah! ;)

I had a break of the Sims 2 while I was playing the Elder Scrolls V Skyrim, but my return to the game hasn't been so successful: First, I created a cathedral but I'm unable to upload any version of it (I've contacted the TSR staff). Now I started experimenting with a cliff house with lots of levels and even finished the exterior. Being so enthusiastic, I forgot to save the lot until the game suddenly crashed! :o I have to start building from beginning but hopefully I can make it even better.

I have never tried Sims 3, and it doesn't sound, or even look, like something I want to try. I've been playing 2 for 2 or 3 years now and there is still so much I haven't tried or seen. last night one of my YA got a cleaning skill point from having a "tidy date". I'd never seen that before. lol.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again... if only we could have Sims 3 style play and support with Sims 2 style sims. It would be so perfect. :(

I will always love the sims from Sims 2 more than anything Sims 3 can give me.

Oh, I agree with you 100%!

I liked Sims 1 but when Sims 2 came out, I never looked back (don't get me wrong; there are things about Sims 1 that I really liked a lot but the improvement in Sims 2 was just so great that I never felt the need to.) However, I can't say the same for Sims 3. Now that we've had a good few expansion packs for Sims 3, I still find myself disappointed, and it really comes down to the unfriendliness of the storymaking tools and "dough face" graphics. I know it's just a game, but I really felt more "connection" to my Sims 2 families than in Sims 3, and it really is because their personalities seem to come across so much better in Sims 2. Sims 3 has failed to inspire me the same way.

I finally started playing with my Sims 2 neighborhoods again, and wow, it really it like a fresh breeze. If/when they get around to Sims 4, I really hope they revisit the Sims 2 graphics, and make storytelling easier.

Another vote here for Sims 2 sims in an open neighbourhood :) although since I went back to Sims 2 I've found that playing them 'at home' suits me and I don't really miss sending them out and about. In fact, I wonder if having so many options in Sims 3 is what took away from the intimacy of the game? I used to feel a bit distanced when all my sims were scattered over the neighbourhood doing different things.

I like to create a mini 'open neighbourhood' in Sims 2. I make a row of about four terraced houses on a largish lot and create a park with a swimming pool and maybe a (sort of) pub behind the houses. Then I move in medium to large size families and it's fun to play one household and see what the others get up to when I'm not managing them. It's great to see the kids running around playing and not have the bother of looking after them and making them do their homework.

I had a sweet little scene the other day when one of my families had a visitor. I'd just moved them in and money was tight so they only had a few basic items of furniture. I made two of them study and they were sitting at the kitchen table, in the dark, reading away whilst the visitor went outside to catch fireflies. Eventually he came in with a glowing jar of bugs and plonked it on the kitchen table as if to say 'Here, that should help you to see better'. I love Sims 2 sims :)

I have all the expansions and stuff packs for The Sims 2, but I decided to load only the base game to start. I'm using some of the Legacy rules as far as what you're allowed to do, so no cheats, no reloading after a bad event, etc. I decided, for the base game, I would play each career at least once and play a sim in each aspiration before loading the next expansion. I'm doing this because I usually stuck to certain aspirations and careers the first time around. When I've done that, it will be time for University. I don't know what rules I'll set for University before being able to progress to the next expansion.

I also made some general rules overall, and I'm sure those will change and grow as I add expansions. Reaching level 10 in a career is a general rule. Having an alien baby is another. Buying every aspiration reward and collecting all career objects - stuff like that. I didn't want to put too many things in the base game or an expansion's rules because it might take too long to progress. This way, you're able to advance and still work on more difficult stuff.

So far, I'm enjoying myself, but I'm only on the second generation! LOL. Will see how things progress.
