Resolution problem

Okay I have a problem since one or two week. I bought the game Sims 3 and it was working great, but then I don't know what I did but when I go on the options window I can't see the Check mark (Accept) or "X" button (Cancel) and I didn't care since today because I just lost my save...
I try to change the resolution on my laptop but it doesn't change a thing. Also I have a TV/Computer Screen that I can use...but it seems that I can get it to work with my laptop now and don't have a clue why because it used to work in the past....
So thank you for the help !

Yes you can, I've just done it now. I always play fullscreen windowed and am able to change the resolution whenever I want in either windowed or full screen mode.

You shouldn't need to see the check mark etc, when you make the changes just hitting the enter key should enable them as the default it to approve changes if I remember rightly.

Ran out of editing time. Just checked, hitting enter won't work on the options screen unfortunately. I think you need to check your desktop settings, it sounds like something's gone wrong there. Make sure your graphics card drivers are up to date for starters.

how strange, it's always grayed out for me if I'm in windowed mode, like it is in his screenshot above

That's not the resolution, that's the screen refresh rate and yes, that only works in fullscreen mode because it needs to have the whole screen covered to work

Okay, on the actual laptop resolution itself, can you alter the screen placement, it may be that it's slipped too far down towards the bottom margins.

*sighs* the scary thing is, I knew that, and this is what comes from posting before having my first cup of coffee
