I don't know about the collections, but with the downloads, do you mean sims3pack files?

If so, once they have been installed, you no longer need to keep them in the downloads folder in your sims3 folder. I then remove mine and put them in a backup folder, where I organise them into sub folders for clothes, objects, etc and then more subfolders. This makes no difference in the game or in the launcher, just easy for me if I need to find them again to reinstall for some reason. I think it would be really good if EA designed the installed content part of the launcher so that we could find installed content more easily, in case we want to uninstall.

I don't believe that's so, Funkst. The actual files that the game reads are in DCCache and DCBackup. The Downloads folders is just a holding spot.

Funkst, what spladoum and sheridanhoughton have said is correct. The Downloads folder is just a holding area for content waiting to be installed. It is not the final destination of installed content, so it is perfectly safe and is actually recommended that the Downloads folder be cleared after the items have been successfully installed. Once the items are installed they are integrated into the ebc/dbc files in the DCCache folder and a backup package file gets placed in the DCBackup folder for use when content is exported from the game.
