Don't fix it, if it's not broken

This new site is just awful and difficult to navigate. All the ads are obnoxious, with no 'x' to close them out. Why do you aggrevate your customers with this? The old site, while slower, is much more desireable and easier to download and find the correct items. What a disappointment.

Sunny, you only have the option to 'X' the ads if you're a subscriber. Besides, why did they have the site if they wouldn't be earning the money? (They bought the domain lol) I like the new site, however, because it is faster. It's much easier for me to use, because I got used to it! You just need some help around the site, for me to tell you. :)

What kind of ads are you referring to? We've not introduced any new type of ads and they are placed similarly as they were in v7.

As for the layout, a vast majority think the new site is much easier to navigate then the old. Give it some time and I'm sure you'll learn to like it. We have removed a lot of unused clutter and areas of the site that were rarely visited. Larger previews was one of the most wanted features in a redesign and we have, as you can see, put a lot of focus on just larger images.

That's where adblock comes in XD. Well, I'm subscribed atm so there's no need for me, I'll be gone from here prob once my sub runs out.

I have used SimsResource for years off and on. I find this new layout difficult to manuever and downloads are not working properly - and of course after thinking you have everything in the basket downloaded and installed... on bits and pieces are there... it will take time to figure out what is missing and for me to try to download again.

In theory it's great but - the old website was much, much easier to navigate. jmo - thanks still for the work you do.

Adblock plus will solve the ad problems, I didn't even know TSR had advertising. I don't think the site is that bad. You point on downloads click on the categories you want to see. Click on forums you get there, most of the time. I do have issues with downloading, sometimes you have to click a few times to get it working and I have had my share of failed to do this and that messages. Logging out can be a problem, but maybe TSR wouldn't consider that an issue. I certainly have worked my way through worse sites.

I can understand how you feel Sunny Skies. When the new version of the site was launched.
I spent abit of time looking around the site and to get a feel of the new layout.
I was abit touch and go at first but now i am use to it and its great.
People dont like change but you'll be fine once you get use to it.

Thiomas: Featured items on the front page are bigger, but I beg to differ about the size of download previews. To put this in context - I submit patterns in sets. My previews for the individual patterns are in the size 800x600, but the cover shot for the set is 1024x768. I do this to ensure that smaller details are more evident and hopefully will lead to interest in the set itself. However, in V8 ALL previews [ the individual patterns and the overview] are the same size - the 800x600 default.

In V7, clicking on a preview image produced a larger version. In V8 clicking on the image simply brings up another shot of the same image size.

What is the point of allowing larger pictures [1024x768] if they are reduced to 800x600 when viewed. . . .

I may not be a TSRW creator, but I take care with my patterns and it is disappointing when they aren't given the visibility they could have, under the current specifications for picture sizes..

I must say that I have to agree with this 100%. Every time I see something that interests me I always want to open the larger image, but I always end up with a facepalm moment when presented with the exact same size image I just clicked on.

marcorse, at least you are getting 800x600! All images for me are loading at 600x450. I feel like I'm always looking at thumbnails considering that I'm on a 1920x1080 display. I'm too young to have to be using a magnifying glass to see my screen! :P I realize that full HD may not be completely mainstream yet, but 600x450?

Well well - this is actually a bug that has slipped past us. You are indeed supposed to get the original size when you click on the big image on the details page. We will fix this shortly.

Thomas . . thanks a million. I hesitated to speak out earlier because I understood the difficulties that you must have been dealing with on the new format . . now, I am glad I did. :)

sim_man123 . . . you are so right! I now realise that I was a tad generous estimating pic dimensions! I guess I was peeved by the fact that there was no larger image when clicking for a closer look. . . .hopefully Thomas and the team will have this sorted out soon, and you can put the glass away again. :D

Thomas . . Yep! looks like it is. Thanks a bunch, it was really bugging me. :) . it is quite likely that there are people out there who think the lack was just a V8 change. If my old memory serves me correctly, there used to be a small notation to 'click for a larger image'. I don't see this presently, so I think I'll put a small notice on my upcoming lot and pattern set for today. That way, a few people will see it. :D Thanks again, Team. Marg.

That previous post a bit premature as it happens, Thomas. My 1024x768 cover shots are still only enlarging to 800x600. If this is due to site refresh constraints, then everything is fine, but if not, nothing much has been gained from my perspective..
