OK so I have win 7 on my notebook and when I go into computer,OS: C it lists 2 different program files.
The one just says program files while the other says Program files (x86) Now I am curious, since there are a few "mods" out there that I would like to try, which folder do I put the required information into, I have been putting it in both "just in case" but I am startying to get a lot of custom content as well as several mods and it is just confusing me and the "mod" doesn't work when I restart the game. SO PLEASE I'M begging for some help here as to put what files/folders into what places in the game so it works. Thank you for your help and your time!

Your mods should actually go into the "Mods/Packages" folder of My Documents. Many of the newer mods that have been developed, such as the Pose Player and other behavior-changing mods, won't work at all if they're placed into Program Files.

This is the procedure to set up your Mods/Packages folder to work correctly.

*ETA: EA has changed the way the game now reads third party scripting mods. You no longer need to create a Mods folder in the Program Files section of the game.

EA Patch Notes said:

Players who play The Sims 3 with game modifications can now create a folder in which to place their game modifications. The folder should be located here: C:\Documents and Settings\YourComputer\My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods

When Mods are placed in the official Mod folder, a notification will appear to remind players that Mods are installed.
Placing Mod packages into the Mod folder is an officially sanctioned way to bypass assembly signing verification. The Resource.cfg file must be placed in this folder in order for the modifications to work correctly.

So you would make a Mods folder in the Documents section of the game C:\Documents and Settings\YourComputer\My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods inside of which is a folder called Packages and you use a modified Resource.cfg file which looks like this:

Quote

Priority 500
PackedFile Packages/*.package
PackedFile Packages/*/*.package
PackedFile Packages/*/*/*.package
PackedFile Packages/*/*/*/*.package
PackedFile Packages/*/*/*/*/*.package
PackedFile Packages/*/*/*/*/*/*.package

which is also placed inside the Mods folder. Use Notepad to open up the existing Resource.cfg file. If you do not already have a Resource.cfg file then either download the altered one from Mod the Sims or create one using Notepad or any other form of text editing software.

Let me see if I have this straight, the mods/packages folder no longer goes in program files at all but back into the mydocuments folder where the rest of my sim stuff is located?
Basically I just want to get rid of that hellashish checker board effect when my mods are "nude" would also like them to have "nude as an option for sleeping/ hot tubbing just like we could in sims 1.
So if I understand you correctly, putting all my package files IN program files is now pointless and I need to move them all back? just FYI I have all the xpax right thru and including showtime.
thanks for your help in clarifying this for me.

The change in the location of the Mods\Packages folder happened back in May/June 2010 with the Ambitions expansion pack and its related game patch (1.12/2.7/3.3). So yes, you need to move it into the Documents area, not the Program Files area.
