I'm sorry for asking this basic a question, but I didn't see this topic in a quick scan. I knew the answer once, but I haven't played in a while.

I just did a fresh install on a new computer. (Base Sims 3, WA & Ambitions, all the EP's I own.) I copied my downloads folder from my old computer onto a flash drive (I think that's what they're called, I'm not that tech savvy) and transferred the file into the Sims 3 folder on the new computer. (After updating the game to newest version, but before loading the game at all.) But they're not showing up in the launcher.

path is: D:/Program Files(x86)/Electronic Arts/Sims 3/Downloads

(I inherited my husband's computer & don't entirely understand his setup, but it's got 2 drives, C: for Windows, and D: for everything else. The "program files(x86)" was default path.)

Do I need to individually install all those items again? There are 199 items, so I really hope the answer is no. Do I just need to load up the game for the first time?

Many thanks.

There are a couple of reason why these are not showing up in your game. 1) You have not installed them into the correct folder. Downloads do not go into the Program Files set of folders. They go into the Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Downloads folder. The Program Files set of folders contains the core game files. The Documents set of folders contains your downloads information, Saved Sims, game saves, screenshots and videos, and so on.

2) If the only folder you saved was the Downloads folder, then yes you will need to install all of those files again. The Downloads folder is just a holding area for files waiting to be installed. It is not the final resting place of installed content. When files get installed into the game, they get integrated into the ebc/dbc files in the DC Cache folder, and a backup copy gets placed in the DC Backup folder for use when exporting Sims or lots from the game. Once files are successfully installed, the Sims3pack files should be deleted from the Downloads folder. Having too many items in the Downloads folder that do not need to be there has been known to slow down the game launcher considerably.
