Well, the new site is cool let's say but, since the Sims2 Forums are not as popular, since we cannot, or barely get infos, help, advices etc.., since no one ever answer anyone anymore I'm thinking..what's the point ?
TSR used to be one of my first site to visite everyday. But what used to be a huge part of it is now dying.
What a shame..while so many people still play and would enjoye a bit of Sims2 chatting, help, infos...
I am convince though, that if ever someone would post an inappropriate topic or post/thread, a mod would quicly jump in and delete it..won't care answering, no..but would make it disapear.
And no, I won't "test" it...
This is just laaaaaaaaame.

Goodbye.

Rosie, I know how you feel. I felt the same way years ago when Sims1 was being abandoned for Sims2. We would love to see the Sims2 forums active again. Unfortunately there is not much that we here at TSR can do if Sims2 players do not come into the forums. ;)

I do want to address this statement though...

As probably the most visible moderator here, I never played Sims2 so I will not be able to answer many questions about that game. It is not that I don't want to, but rather that I do not have the knowledge necessary to answer those questions, especially if the topics are about creating for Sims2. I have created for Sims1 and Sims3, but not Sims2. When I can, I have gone out of my way though to do forum searches to find answers to some Sims2 questions that I can handle. :)

I did play The Sims 2 and enjoyed it very much, rose-maman, but on weekdays I don't have access to a computer until 2:30 EST. :( Today is unusual because I took a vacation day from work.

I think that the forums in general are much quieter than they once were. Not only for TS2 but TS3 as well. :)

But that is as it should be in most cases. If a topic or post is inappropriate it needs to be deleted and there doesn't need to be a reply given by the moderator to the person who posted the topic or post. :)

In my personal opinion, forums everywhere seem to be going the way of the dodo, being replaced by social media (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest) and instant chatting options (Skype).

I think it entirely depends on the forum type to be honest. I post on a lot of forums, most of them are still active but a lot of those are mixed forums which cover music, film, TV, games etc and others are dedicated to a specific thing like a TV show, MMO, or were set up a long time ago for a specific purpose and people have stuck together even when they have no need for that specific thing any more (cloth nappy forums).

Forums are not as glorious as they used to be rose-maman. Even I that I am still playing sims2 I forget come to the forums. Facebook has replaced it as Degera says.
I also feel sad that sims 2 are dying though...

"Adopt, adapt, improve.." I recently been to a forums where I was completely addicted; well over a thousand posts a day, at the top of google searches, a real pleasure to hang out at, lots going on. (Only reason I left was half the mods were trolls, and the admin was a lowlife). Anyhow, their success seemed to be a free app where their shoutbox was tied to cellphone text messaging. Each shoutbox post counted towards the forum total, users could browse the forums from their phones, every new app user was signed into the shoutbox by default and was counted as a new forum member in the process, etc. (They also had an extremely lax policy on spamming in their games forum). Each post in the forums earned 'bits' where a user could purchase upgrades towards their member account. The forum was VBulletin based, and used a number of add-ons from this place: http://www.dragonbyt...vbecommerce.php

Everything they did seemed to be to increase traffic; IMO what kills a forum is to go there and see nothing going on.. why stay? And with every one that doesn't stay, two others come in and do likewise. It's an exponential situation.

These forums have had declining activity for the past few years. The changeover has made it even more the case for many reasons. I would say that 90-95% of the people who used to post here are now all gone. Artists were all over the boards trying to do damage control for a while, and now they are not even posting much.

All true; but unless the goal is to die, the question becomes "what do we do about it?" These forums are inextricably linked to the game, the sims. The strength of this place, though, is not just bound to the popularity of the game, but to how much side line content we can muster; what all can be done to improve on the experience of coming here/hanging out here. Mimic-ing what's good with currently popular sites would work. Dust does not indicate decay, only disuse.

You can make suggestions, but sadly the attitude here lately too often has been that if you don't like what we are doing, don't let the door hit you on the way out. I think that the site has burned too many bridges for too many former posters, along with other things that I will not go into.

Yes, it is all sad as this was a very fun place to be in the past. But it is not the same place that it used to be.

I just looked at the member total posts in the lower right and it worked for the first time. It is interesting to look at. I am number 10 and Derrick and Rosie, you are both on the first few pages. Almost everyone else I have never heard of as gone so long, and except for Moza who is gone, Spladoum who is here, Sonshine is about the only person who is still here. It clearly shows who was active in the past and the exodus of most of them.

There's also a bug with a lot of us former moderators and our post counts don't even display properly. I've made a heck of a lot more posts than the 40 odd I've been given ;)

You are sure right about that!

It was the first time that I tried to look at that and actually got results. It was interesting seeing names of people I have long forgotten, who were very active here in the past. It brought back some memories of some fun conversations in the past.

That bug also happened to some of us who are still moderators. Under my avatar it only lists 475 posts, but if you look at my actual profile I have well over 11,000 posts.

No worries! If running a sit-down pizza parlor isn't working out, offer delivery, add items to the menu, set up a drive-thru window. Forums are always ripe for customization. Here's the place I was talking about earlier: http://www.friendshi...agic.org/forum/ (You need to register to see the shoutbox) They're getting well over a thousand posts a day and it isn't just the subject matter. Here's their stats:

Quote

Threads 18,705 Posts 462,167 Members 6,754 Active Members 1,932
Welcome to our newest member, DarkBlaze3
Average Registrations 20.59 Per Day, 144.14 Per Week, 617.74 Per Month
Average Posts 1476.57 Per Day, 10336 Per Week, 44297.16 Per Month
Average Threads 59.76 Per Day, 418.32 Per Week, 1792.81 Per Month
If you take the subject matter out of the equation, The difference is their apps, the 'text-from-your-phone' shoutbox, and their overall lax attitude to discipline. They'll ban for a few days, and if things were serious they'd perma ban as I recall. But aside from a short list of rules, pretty much it's a 'love and tolerate' honor system there.

I'd warn against hanging out there though. About half the mods are.. 'immature' lets say. They can get nasty, I've seen a real lack of class there at times.

The problem is that these forums are not ripe for customization now.

Staff/artists here have said many times that this is the way we are doing it. I have not liked the way that they have said it at times, but they are being honest that the site has made the decision to switch to this version and it is a done deal. Until the next version, whenever that is, I don't think there will be significant changes.

Whether the decisions already made were wise ones or not, only time will tell.

Hi, Apostle! :)

Too late to edit. Also I think that the folks who come here like that it is not a Wild West shootout and that there is at least in theory a PG philosophy. (Even though there are clothes that not even a streetwalker would wear.) There are plenty of sites out there that are very uncivilized and that can become tiresome very fast.

I won't given my opinion about the shoutbox.

Sims only needs one MATY where anything goes in posts! Snooty Sims is/was pretty darn bad also when I was checking their forums a while back before one of the EPs came out.

I don't think many folks want a freeforall approach here.

Wow. I tried to wade through, but all I feel is the cement hardening around my ankles.. O.k. you win, let's close up shop. Last one out turn off the lights, huh? Maybe we can rig a 'fire' and collect on the insurance..
