I am probably going to get yelled at, but I didn't see another topic for this anywhere.

I have Late Night, and I noticed that there aren't any items for Late Night when I search. When I went to my account to add Late Night as one of my expansions, I noticed that there is no way to add Sims 3 Expansions.... Am I missing something?

I noticed that too! I was also wondering why nobody else mentioned this because I don't have every EP and SP out there for sims 3 right now, I need some way to figure out if I can use the CC or not if the creator didn't mention it in the description.

Also, if there happens to be an icon to tell me what EP is required, it's just an icon! How am I supposed to know what EP/SP matches each little chiclet??

Expansion packs requirements work a lot differently for Sims3 than they did for Sims1 or Sims2. With Sims3, for the most part, there are no expansion pack requirements. There is an exception to that, but I'll get to that in a minute.

Custom content objects, clothing, etc that are created from expansion or stuff pack items should be base game compatible, so they will not need the expansion or stuff pack installed to work in your game. They will have the expansion pack icon on them as genevaballin mentioned, but they should still be base game compatible. Custom lots and Sims that use expansion or stuff pack items will have those automatically replaced by base game items if you do not have those expansion or stuff packs installed. What is more important for Sims3 are the game patches. You need to stay up to date with the game patches as EA has changed the game coding with the patches a couple of times now, which has then caused custom content creators to have to revise their content to work with those changes. Plus there are times when EA will extend certain features of an expansion pack into the game patches so people without the expansion can benefit from the features, such as the basement tool and the in-game world editor, just to name two.

The exception to this rule would be for items that are specific to a category featured only in the expansion packs. In those cases, the artists should be mentioning that in their item descriptions. For example, necklaces that are classified specifically as Necklaces will not work unless you have the Ambitions expansion pack, as that was when the necklace category was introduced. Necklaces that are classified as a base game accessory such as gloves, rings, sunglasses, etc will work just fine though. Tattoos that are classified as Tattoos will only work in Ambitions but tattoos that are classified as make-up will work in just the base game. With lots, this same thing applies. If you don't have World Adventures, for example, you will not be able to use tombs, as that lot classification is just for WA. But as I said, if this is case, the creator should be giving that requirement in their item description.

frisbud . . what a wonderfully complete and easy to follow explanation you have given. . the query itself isn't one I have problems with, but if I had, then your response would have made my day. :D :D
