Does anyone know how to create a bump map using Gimp? I have the plugin for it, but I get stuck at the part where you have to change the channels around, I am not sure how to do it with Gimp and I don't really want to buy Photoshop for it >.< Can anyone help?

In addition to the above and the Wiki article that explains what channels need to be swapped, perhaps this will be some help :) http://gimp.open-sou...nel-dialog.html

I'm not specifically how to do this as I don't use GIMP, but all you need to do is add an alpha channel, then copy everything the red channel and paste it over to the alpha channel. Then copy the green channel to both the red and blue channels, so essentially what you end up with Green, Green, Green, Red. I've done it a couple of times in Photoshop and it's fairly easy once you understand what to do :D

unfortunate this is pretty hard in GIMP :(
It does not show the rgb channels so you can not pick a individual channel to copy
The channel dialog window, is that a extra plugin?

I know how the order of the channels go, I just don't know how to individually copy and paste them in Gimp :( it doesn't give you the option or at least it hasn't from anything I've seen....

i know....
you can duplicate one channel tho but the pasting onto another channel doesn't work.
Another problem im having is that the normalmapfilter doesn't show, it does work for you?

Wow hey, I think I may try that! It seems like it would be okay. I'll go ahead and test it out when I can.
Thank you for the video, that is verrrry helpful! c:

Ah, yep! The bump map worked out perfectly! I have one more question though, when I import my bump map and click the "show bump map" button, it goes from like a dark grey to a much lighter grey near the tummy area that I can't seem to get rid of and it makes the bottom of my creation look shiny. How do I get rid of that?
