Hi everyone,

So I've been a devotee of the Sims since I was about 8, but I've noticed a consistent issue: there are no sims with disabilities in any of the games. To make matters worse there is almost no custom content to create characters with disabilities, either. Whether or not they meant to, what the Sims has done is create a fantasy world where we can marry aliens, but people with disabilities don't exist.

When I talked to the EA representatives, they said that the devs put in toddlers by popular demand from the players. I'm thinking if enough people ask for it, we can get sims with disabilities too.

So keeping that in mind, I made a petition! Please sign it so we can get the word out.

I was wondering the same thing too since the first sims game in the 90's came out.

It sounds like a great idea but from the way half the sims community treat each other, i can see this being misinterpreted and people not treating illness/disabilities in a respectful and dignified way. EA would have to be extremely careful to be sensitive to the feelings of fellow people with disabilities. The difference between disabilities and aliens is,,,,aliens are not real so there is no risk there. I understand what you are trying to accomplish with your topic etc, but i'm not sure incorporating it into a game is the way to go. Because you just know that there's always those kind of people out there that will disrespect it. x

I don't think it's very likely that EA will add disabilities.

Besides a huge number of issues with the actual creation (after 4 series we still can't even choose different heights for or sims or simply choose a shape for our stairs at this point for crying out loud),

we only just got passed needing a full tile of free space to move our sims.

I fear it would probably end up insulting more people than anything else, this is a very sensitive subject...

Even the tiniest wrong choice of movement or representing it as 'too easy or simple' for any type of disability could end up being a PR nightmare for EA...

Personally; having a wheelchair in real life is enough, I'm really not waiting for one for my self-simmie.

I appreciate the idea though ;) B)

Our simmies having perfectly healthy bodies is not something to be taken for granted :D

A complicated issue that will only get more complicated...society isn't kind to disabled people, my girlfriend is a learning disability nurse and she sees on a daily basis how these people are treated by the rest of society...people can be cruel! On the internet, those people can be 50 times more cruel! Why highlight them? Disabled people don't want to be highlighted, they certainly don't want to be on show, and they certainly don't want to be disabled! So in my opinion this would not be a positive step for the game or for disabled people. If I was disabled, I wouldn't switch on The Sims 4 and want to play as a disabled person. I would want to play as a young, fit athletic person with all the opportunities that entails...anyway that's my 10 bobs worth!
