Ever since installing the framework for Merlin on the newest update, I have been having trouble. At first, Sims 3 was unable to load any of my package files. Thus, I then replaced the resource.cfg file with the one I usually use.

Since then, I have been unable to start up Sims 3 at all. The launcher comes up fine I have taken my packages (including mods) out entirely, deleted my worldcache files, my other cache files in the main folder, tried to play the game without my user presets, tried to play without any content installed using Sims 3's launcher, but to avail. The only thing I've done besides those things between now and the last time I played was install this program, so I'm sort of at my wit's end. I even have uninstalled Merlin, checked my game, then installed Merlin to see if it would replace the resource.cgf file. No go.

Does the newest version of Merlin place any files anywhere that I can delete to see if my game will work again? What did it modify when I installed it?

Nevermind- after tinkering some more, it turns out I overwrote the resource.cfg file in the wrong place. Everything works fine now that my copy of resource.cfg is in the right place, and the CC is showing up.

No Plumbobs!

Ok, so i uninstalled merlin to find that all my cc had been removed. Took me quite a while to figure out that my recourse file was gone. Everything has returned back to normal except that all the plumbob symbols are gone! It was really useful having them before, as i could distinguish them apart from everything else very easily. is there anyway of fixing this??

Your Resource.cfg file should be located in "C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3" and contain the following lines:

Code:
Priority 501 DirectoryFiles Mods/Files/... autoupdate Priority 500 PackedFile Mods/Packages/*.package Priority 499 PackedFile Mods/Test/*.package Priority -50 PackedFile Mods/Probation/*.package
The version of Resource.cfg contained with Merlin has some additional lines that should make no difference but the above is the bare minimum of what you need to have.

This is, unfortunately, a side effect of installing content to the game's root directory. More details about why, exactly, this happens are available here: Merlin Manual. Eventually Merlin will let you install content so it gets marked properly but not for the time being.

I deleted a whole bunch of patterns using Merlin but when I went into the game the next time, they were still there.

These are the steps I followed. I ran Merlin, clicked on the "Manage Installed Custom Content" button at the bottom, which opened the download manager. I selected ..../Documents/Electronic Arts/ The Sims 3 as the folder to search. I then selected "pattern" from the drop-down menu and clicked apply filter. The only sub-folder that showed patterns was the DCBackup. I viewed patterns and deleted the ones I didn't want to keep but again, as I mentioned, they were still there when I loaded the game later. I'm assuming it's a bug?

The installed content is stored in DCbackup. You will still be able to find them in the download section in the Launcher if you not deleting the original sims3pack file in the download folder. I suspect you clicked on some wrong button and installed them again? Anyway, if that is not the case, you can try delete the cache files and log in again.

Here are my problem. I'm a newbie to merlin and I have been very careful to the content I installed.
First off, Merlin installed all my sims3pack files(except lots) to C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages and save them as package file, is that correct?
Secondly, I was able to change the "FullPath" with no problem, but when I try to change "Name" and "Description", it does not save. I'm using vista and I have given "modify" privilege to everything I could think of... please help!

Thanks for the response. I didn't accidentally reinstall them so I'll try deleting the cache files and see if that fixes the problem.

I tried what charcharm suggested and it didn't work. The patterns still show up in the game and in the launcher as well. I don't get it. My O/S is Windows 7 RC 64-bit. I don't know if that has anything to do with it, although I haven't had any problems installing anything or running at all while using it, including Sims 3 and Merlin.

hmm, did you use Merlin when you install them? coz merlin install everything in c./.../the sims3/mods/packages folder
and the launcher install them in documents.../DCbackup folder, you probably get both?
Also which folder do they show up in launcher? "download" or "installed content"? if they are still in the installed content category, they are still in DCbackup and not been deleted. A easy way to do through launcher is
1. delete your DCbackup folder
2. go to launcher, and in the "download" category, select whatever you dont want and press "delete" button
3. select everything else and press install
After I figure out how merlin works, I stopped using launcher because it takes forever to install

My Sims3Pack files work now (after nearly six hours of trying to work this problem out), but not my package files...I have tried everything that has been suggested on here, uninstalled and reinstalled TS3 twice and it still doesn't work. Why on earth is this happening with this program? Desperately need some advice on what to do!

Doesn't matter. Managed to fix it myself. Not that I think I would have gotten much of an idea from anyone anyway.

Hi!

I created staires in the last Workshop. They can be installed in game by launcher, but not by Merlin.
Quote:
0 files successfully installed... 1 files failed
What's wrong?

All other files from TSR I downloaded by Merlin successfully.

Here is this stair.

I got what you mean here until it happened to me today. I download this set of wildflowesr from TSR. Use Merlin to install the 3 sim3pack file, but when I go check my mods/packages folder, there is nothing there. So I went back to Sims3 Launcher and installed those 3 files successfully. Log in game and decided that I do not want to keep them. I then deleted the 3 files from my DCBackup where the launcher installed. Guess what, they are still in my game. Ahhh Merlin must have installed them in some secrete place

Actually, I think what's happening is that the game has the patterns cached. Try deleting the cache files (CASPartCache.package, compositorCache.package, scriptCache.package, simCompositorCache.package) in your My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 folder.

Those of you having other install issues with certain pieces of content, don't worry, a new solution for installing Sims 3 content that is much faster and smoother is coming soon.

Hello to all I am raw and have managed to create some objects for the Sims3 with TSR Workshop (the beta version) and though it leaves me to create correctly the Sims3packs, on having placed them in the Launcher they do not show the image of the object that I add in TSR Workshop. In addition when I try to install my creations from the Launcher mistake gives me with a message that indicates me that not this one updated the software of the game and that updates it to install.

Might they help me please? Thank you very much.

Hello!

You might actually want to post your question in the Workshop forums as it seems the problem is coming from the Sims3Pack files created by the Workshop. At least that's my guess based on how you describe the problem.
