Is there a way to play Sims 1 in a window format?

I know for the Sims 2 you can play the game in a window so it doesn't take up the whole screen. Is there an option for that in Sims 1?

Thanks for the help.

Yes, though you can't do it from the autorun/autoplay screen.

If you have a desktop or Start Menu shortcut that you use to start the game, right-click on it, and select Properties. There'll be a textbox labeled Target, or something similar to that. Click in the textbox, then move the cursor to the end. Hit the spacebar, then type -w . Click OK. Whenever you use that shortcut to start the game, it'll start in windowed mode.

You can also add the option -debug_objects to start the game in debug mode. This can be useful if you use downloaded objects.

You also get on option on the screen before the game begins to load. Choose "play" and the smaller size screen.

It also has a feature to run in window

Sim freaks under Program

Elis SIms does not work with higher expacks than Hot Date. It stopped working for me when I added

I tried all this, and no matter what I do I get the error message when I attempt to start it in windowed mode:

"Fatal Error!
Game cannot be started because:
Color must be set to 16 bit (high color).
Exit now."

does anyone know how to set it to 16-bit or how to fix this some other way?

Change to 16 bit color

To change to 16-bit color, go to your desktop. Right click on an empty spot; you should get a small menu in which you select "properties." In the properties window, click the "settings" tab. Under "color quality," choose 16-bit color (I set mine at 32-bit). Good luck.
