Pascal's searchMore to life?
Life in the Curious house was moving along as normally as it ever had. Pascal rose, took care of his small sons needs and did his best to get to work on time. His younger brother Lazlo, would help out when he could, that was when he wasn’t out with lady friends. Pascal doubted his brother would settle down and marry; it just didn’t seem in Lazlo’s nature. There was too much fun to be had, why stop? This wasn’t something he understood at all. After bathing Alan one day, he’d watch Lazlo stagger in from a night out, a slight smile on his brother’s face, and fall into his bed. He was old enough to know what he was doing, and Pascal was not his keeper, even if he was the oldest. He just wished… What did he wish? The house had been so different when Vidcund lived here with his wife, Melody. It had started to feel like a family again, and he hadn’t realised how much he missed the sound of a female’s voice. Alan loved the attention too, but what child wouldn’t? They were only across the road, and there was a permanent open invitation to visit. But it wasn’t the same. Before he realised it, Alan had grown into a child and had started school. Thankfully, this was Strangetown, so no one teased him about his green skin or large black eyes. More than one family had a few secrets they’d rather others didn’t look too closely at. Plus he took to studying like a true Curious! Pascal looked at himself in the mirror, not all that happy with what looked back. No matter what he did, he couldn’t seem to change his appearance. A new haircut reverted to his old one in a month, too much effort to keep it styled. Contact lens? He couldn’t get the hang of wearing them, and he preferred his old frames. Clothes-wise, now that had changed. He’d found Lazlo’s leather jacket in his wardrobe one day, and as if fit, he started wearing it with jeans and a plain jumper. It looked better than the t-shirt and sandals he’d always worn. With a sigh, he left the bathroom and went to call a taxi. He was heading into town to visit the new bookstore that had recently opened. Vidcund had been borrowing some of their collection on the occult, and Pascal found himself starting to get interested in that subject once more. * * *

Thank you all for the great comments, glad you like the next tale as much as the first
Unexpected encounter He was surprised at the number of people that were milling around inside the shop; it had been open for almost a week, so he’d assumed that the curiosity crowds would have faded by now. Deciding that as he was here, he might as well look, he pushed his way through the door and browsed. It reminded him a lot of city bookstores, shelves in order, and a section for each subject. There were even a number of armchairs scattered about for people to sit and read in. Pascal smiled and nodded slightly. It looked a good place. Loosing track of time, he browsed through the shelves, at one point he started collecting books to purchase. Christmas was fast coming up, and even if the weather didn’t alter in Strangetown, that didn’t stop them thinking of the snow. {That’s Vid taken care of….. Don’t think Mel would want a book… Fermat’s into biology... Astra’s hard to buy for… Alan? What to get Alan?} Not really seeing where he was going, he crashed into another customer and both sets of books went flying. “Sorry… Sorry! My fault… I should have been looking…” Quickly he knelt down and started trying to gather the assortment up. The cover of one caught his interest. “Progressive Witchcraft? Is this one yours?” The woman who’d knelt down as well flushed bright red, and grabbed the book from his hand, holding it tight to her chest. “…..thank you……..” She had the most brilliant green eyes he’d ever seen and the strangest features ever. His first thought was that she was old, far older than him. Her hair was long and silver, but she had the body of a young woman, dressed in gothic style, and there was a hint of agelessness about her. He found it rather appealing. “Could you tell me, where you found it? I’ve been looking for that one, but couldn’t see it” Pascal smiled and collected his books, the woman slowly picked up the three that were her choices and hugged them to her chest as well. “..sure….. There over here….” Checking once to see if he was following her, she took him to the right section, and nodded to the shelves. “..there…” Pascal glanced at the shelf, noted it was part of the fairly large occult section and realized he wasn’t sure what to do now. The woman looked up from the floor once or twice, she was very nervous for some reason. “Thank you…. My name’s Pascal… Pascal Curious by the way” Juggling the books, he held out a hand in greeting. She looked at it for a moment, then slowly reached out and touched his fingers briefly. “…Batty…. Norah Batty…” {Batty? Now why was that name familiar?} Mentally he snapped his fingers, of course! Vid had had a fling with a Sarah Batty, were they related? “That’s not a common name. Are you related to Sarah by any chance?” The silver-haired woman nodded, some of it fell over her face and she carefully pushed it back. “….She was … my niece” “Was your niece?” Norah, holding her books tight to her body pushed past him, and refused to answer. Pascal turned and watched her leave, a puzzled look on his face. {I’d better phone Vid tonight} * * *

Oh my goodness! So Sarah is dead? Not that she meant that much to Vid now but she is the mother of two of his kids...
Norah is very pretty! It appears she has a wise soul... she's seen and known far more than the average sim, I think! Great update! Hugs Cindy

Phone call in the night
The phone was answered by Astra, Vidcund alien first-born daughter. “Hi Pascal! When you coming over? Fermat wants to try out his latest recipe on you” “Maybe later, Astra. Is Vidcund there?” “Yeah, I’ll just get him…… MOM! Phone!” Pascal winced as she shouted down the line, and waited while it was handed over and a puzzled sounding Vidcund came on-line. “Hello?” “Vid, it’s me, Pascal” Vidcund frowned and turned slightly to look out of his front window, he could see his brothers’ house from here. “Why didn’t you just walk over?” “Not now, Vid…… Sarah Batty?” “What about her?” He went mentally on guard. It wasn’t a name that he really wanted to think about, last time he saw her, she had invited him round just to shout at him about being a bad parent. Like he’d had much choice in that matter? Still, it had worked out for the best. He’d married someone much better than Sarah. “Did she have an aunt that you know of?” Vidcund was starting to wonder just where this was all going. “She did have a relative living with her for a while, helping her with the twins while she kept working. I think it was an aunt… What’s this all about Pascal?” He ignored that question. “How old was she?” Vidcund looked to the ceiling and almost shouted. “How the heck should I know?! Old, I guess, if it was the person I saw there once. Green eyes, glasses, nervous looking, very old. Happy?” {Very old?} Pascal rested his forehead on his arm, just what the heck was going on here? “Thanks Vid…. I’ll drop by later, okay?” “Okay. See you then” {Now what?} * * *

I still need to get my head wrapped around how you call vidcund and pascal their mothers.
Whenever i first read it, i'm always like "Melody? But he said Vidcund?" I'll get used to it eventually. I really like Sarah Batty's aunt! ![]() britchenhauer

What use the Internet?
Replacing the phone, he just stood for a moment in thought. Were they the same person then? Was the Norah Batty he’d met today the same one that Vidcund had seen, who looked after twins now fully grown and living lives of their own? Lots of things were possible in Strangetown, people aged at different rates. Some grew old and passed away, while others seemed to stay young forever. {…Was my niece...} Past tense…. Was, not is. Pascal went to the computer and fired up the internet, ignoring his mail box for now, he called up the local paper. He wished now, he’d been reading it to find out the local news rather than just putting it straight into recycling unread. What other things had he been missing? It took a bit of finding, but there it was two years ago…. Strange how Vid hadn’t said anything, but maybe he hadn’t known….. Doctor Sarah Batty passed away aged 80. She left two children, and two grandchildren behind. No mention of an aunt or other relations. Time to hit the search engines! Sometime later he sat back in his chair admitting defeat. There were days were no matter what you typed in, you couldn’t find the link, and today was one of those days. Pushing the chair away, he went to make himself a sandwich. Alan was sat on Lazlo’s old panda chair, reading his school book. “You hungry, Alan?” Alan looked up at his mother with his large black eyes and smiled. “I’m okay mum; Uncle Laz made my tea earlier” “Lazlo is getting good; I wonder what’s wrong with him?” Pascal muttered as he made his snack. Sitting back at the computer, his eyes roamed over the listing of people who were currently on-line. One caught his attention. Issac. One of Vidcund twins with Sarah. If anyone might know, he would. Opening a chat-window he started typing. # Issac, how are you? Its Pascal# # Not too bad, you okay Uncle Pas?# They chatted for a few minutes on mundane matters; till Pascal thought it was safe to ask what was on his mind. # Issac, do you know a Norah Batty?# # Mother had an aunt Norah, she stayed with us until we reached our teens. I always felt sorry for her, as mom treated her terribly# #How so?# # <lol> Mom treated everyone terrible, did Dad never tell you? Poor Norah came to help mom with us when we were born, she loved kids but had never married. Mom took advantage of that need and thought nothing of leaving us with her for hours. Plus the poor woman didn’t even have her own bedroom, she had to sleep where she could. Why are you asking?# # I met someone with that name today, I just wondered if it was the same one# # Norah was well into her sixties when she moved out, I doubt she’s still alive Uncle Pas. Perhaps it was a relation to her? Got to go, Vid’s awake. See you!# * * *
