The AtticNOTE : This is my first attempt at a story here in the forums...bear with me. This is merely a break I take between The Fisher Legacy back at TSR and my passion for creating lots for your use. I'm not sure where this story will end up, nor am I sure about how long it's going to be. I hate good-byes, and therefore I'm terrible at making conclusions...you should also bear with me in that aspect as well. I had tried to submit this story to TSR, but I found that the house was so big and so full of objects and CC, it was too slow for my dinosaur contraption that claims to be a computer...so, I figured since I liked this story so much, I'd post it here. I don't have to deal with the slow lot, but can still tell the story. What a deal!
Now, let's get on with it, shall we? (Another Note: I will link to the pictures via this symbol -> (+)) She stood in the middle of the hallway tossing questions and what if's around in her head. (+) She stared at the farthest door, the door that couldn't be locked and shouldn't be opened. Father was in the library reading up on Lord knows what, Mother was in the Laundry room doing the daily laundry, and her brother, Michael, was in the game room playing the latest game. No one would hear, and no one would know. In and out, really quick, that's it. She just wanted to see. Mother and Father both had sat her down before they moved in and made sure she understood that the attic was off limits. You should never tell a small child that something is off limits. It sparks a massive amount of curiosity, and thus it will be filled as children don't take "no" for an answer. They don't understand danger, and they surely don't understand their parents. It wasn't like there wasn't anything to do. The house was massive, nearly 20 rooms and an indoor concert hall, pool, and even a very large game room for the children. It used to belong to her grandparents, her Father's parents. They were very well off, disgustingly wealthy actually. Father inheritated the family corporation after they both died in a terrible accident, and he recently built another addition overseas. He was rarely around, but still no decisions were made in his abscence. He had total control over the house and his wife. She came from a rather poor family, nothing to offer the world except their two hands. She was nothing to her husband except a maid, pretty face, and a womb. She didn't mind this role. She was well fed, loved by her two children, and could buy anything she wanted. The children were beautiful, intelligent, and incredibly clever. Michael excelled in sports and other physical activites though Father wouldn't allow him to play for the school or any other organization. "Only slackers play games their whole lives. Do something that'll earn you a steady income." He'd say. Michael and his father never did get along, and really no one got along with the man. He was always money-money-money. Madeline was very adventureous, very creative, and a master pianist. The concert hall belonged to her grandmother, but now belonged to her. Her mother held weekly concerts and parties to celebrate her daughter excllence. Madeline was forced to practice for three hours each day after school. Madeline didn't mind this. It helped her escape from the dictatorship of her father, and the constant babying from her mother. It was Sunday, there would be no piano practice and no school and Madeline decided that today was the day she'd inspect the attic. (I'm sorry about the lack of screenies for this section. It is mainly an intro...the next section will have plenty, trust me.)
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

She battled with her conscience and her interest, and finally gave in. She began to slowly walk towards the door. She'd been through every other door in the house, but this one was definitely her favorite and she hadn't even seen the other side yet.
She stopped before touching the knob. (+) Millions and millions of scenarios plagued her as she began to question her faith and courage. The urge was killing her, she had to go in. She reached for the knob, and slowly turned. All the other knobs in the house creaked as they were turned, and her Mother was just down the hall in the laundry room; she needed to be as quiet as possible. But, with so much exctiement, it was hard to do. The door opened enough for her to squeeze through, (+) and it opened into a small room with a set of stairs and many, many boxes. (+) Oh how she'd love to go through them and discover many forgotten items and valuables, but those stairs seemed to be calling her name. Slowly with a racing heart, she made her way up the staircase. Each step seemed to creep louder and louder and she just knew she'd be found out soon enough. "Might as well see all I can see before they catch me." She muttered, and continued up the stairs. (+)
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Thanks everyone for the kind comments.
![]() She stopped at the top of the stairs with wide eyes and an open mouth. She took in a deep breath, and slowlly panned the attic. There was so much stuff! So many boxes, toys, and random objects she couldn't wait to touch. (+) She found so many nursery items and wondered if they used to belong to her father. She wondered what was packed away in all the boxes and why some of the toys were definitely for little girls. She knew her Father had no siblings. They looked too old to be her Father's, but to be packed up here for so long she didn't doubt they may very well have been his or her grandmother's. (+) She moved to the other side of the stairwell wanting to take the entire attic in before choosing one area to rummage through. She found a large mirror standing against the far wall. It seemed to be calling her name, and she went closer. It was beautiful, must have been hundreds of years old. Strangely, the glass was crystal clear. As though it had just been cleaned or just placed here. She moved closer to admire herself in it's reflection only to find she was not alone in the attic. (+) She whipped around as fast as she could, but there was nothing. She glanced back into the mirror to also find it empty as well. Her heart racing, sweat pouring down her brow, and she was frightened. (+) She regained some composure and courage, and motivated herself to continue looking by saying, "You're only scaring yourself, wimp!" However, she did see something that sparked more curiosity than being told to stay out of the attic ever gave her. (+) It was a small jar, not much bigger than a jar of jam. It seemed old and depressed. She studied the small jar, wondering what secrets it hid. (+) Oh how she wanted to tuck it under her arm and take it back to her room to open it. But, how could you she get it to her room? And what if her mother saw it there?! She'd ask where it came from, then what could she say?! Lies and stories flooded her boggled mind, and she decided against taking it. At least this time.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Madeline turned to leave, focused her eyes on a clear person, and screamed a loud blood curtling scream. (+) The figure, ghost, appartition, whatever you want to call it, stood there staring back her her with the oddest expression. Madeline bolted down the stairs, she knew Mother would be coming now. She flung the door open, and thankfully it shut back behind her as she sprung across the hallway into the den. She sat on the couch, breathing so hard she could feel her lungs hitting her rib cage. Her heart seemed to be popping out of her chest as Mother appeared in the doorway, breatheless as well. (+)
"Madeline, are you alright?!" Mother asked beat. She never did any sort of physical activity, so running around the house must have been a true job. "I ran until I found you, is something wrong?" "There's a mouse!" She shrieked. "Under that couch, there!" She pointed. Her mother never could see through her lies, and Madeline and Michael knew it. "Oh, thank goodness.I thought you'd been hurt." Mother sighed heavily. "I'll send your brother, and tell your Father about the problem." She said very motherly as she turned to leave. *** Father was in the library, he was always in the library. Always reading, studying, finding new ways to make money. She stood in the doorway, admiring him and hating him all at the same time. (+) He was an attractive man, but you can't have your cake and eat it, too. He controlled every aspect of her life. But, he kept her fed, warm, and happy with material things. He'd constantly rub it in her face that without him, she'd be nothing. He drilled it into her for so long, she knew he was right. "Madeline said she saw a mouse in the back den." She said softly. "Okay." He replied in a flat, monotone voice. "What would you like me to do?" She asked, waiting patiently for orders. "Stomp it." He said without even taking his nose of of the book. (+) "I'll call pest control." She said and left the room angrily. *** Michael appeared in the doorway of the den and looked down at his little sister with a smile on his face. (+) "You were in the attic, weren't you?" He asked. "No, why would you say that?!" She snapped back at him. She loved him dearly, as he did her. They were incredibly close, and Madeline could always look up to him for protection and advice. (+) "You saw that girl, didn't you?!" He asked much quieter. "You've been up there, too!?" She was shocked, appalled that he didn't bring her along when he went. (+) "You're not the only curious child in this house, Madeline." (+)
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
